The Model, James Myles Dixon of Daytona beach, has said that it was the most flattering representation since the film "An Officer and a gentleman." The statue was crafted by sculpture Ray Fernandez who said it was the most satisfying sculpture he had ever laid hand on.

She was a member of the Palatka Art League and was an accomplished painter and always had a deep appreciation for Music, the Arts, and Education.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Lorene and Tommy Clay of Grandin; one sister and brother-in-law, Ruth and Bob Lee of Palatka; one brother, Col. Carson Watkins, USAF retired, of Palatka; one grandson, Tommy Clay, Jr.

Palatka, the Gem City of the St. Johns River, the county seat of Putnam County, on the St. Johns River is 45 miles south of Jacksonville.
The first contraction of the Indian word used as the city's name was spelled "Pilatka," but postal authorities complained that this was too easily confused with Picolata, further down the river, and so the "i" was changed to an "a."Other early names include Buena Vista, Gray's Place, Bush Post and Fort Shannon.
Palatka established in 1821 as a trading post was a popular tourist destination in the late 19th century, when steamboats brought winter visitors to the area.

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's Pulp and Paper Technical Team has completed its report of the results of a technical and economic analysis of the Georgia-Pacific Palatka Mill and its discharges.
The report concludes that Georgia Pacific can meet Florida Water Quality Standards (WQS) at its current discharge point in Rice Creek, if EPA's recommended process changes are implemented over the next several years.
EPA expects to continue working with the FDEP and Georgia Pacific in improving the discharge from the Palatka Mill and consequently the water quality of Rice Creek and the St. Johns River.
