From Below - Metal - CD Reviews - Agalloch - Pale Folklore
This band seems to be able to capture all of their emotion and translate it directly to the mixing board, because every one of the songs on this album feels as if it were being played for the first time when it was recorded.
The gripping energy has to be experienced to be believed, and it should be experienced in the correct context: sitting at night, glass in hand, all thoughts of the chaos that is life left behind while the oceanic waves of Agalloch wash over you...
After this seemingly too-brief interlude, the enchanting work that is “Pale Folklore” continues, evolving into a pattern of tension-filled anguish where each song, stanza, and riff incorporates its own energy into the whole, bringing the mixture to a boil, then allowing it to simmer.

erasing clouds music review: pale sunday, summertime?
An enigmatic letter on the album's back cover describes summer like this: "Summer days make things better, summer days make things worse, summer days make me think about you a lot and want to stay with you all day long." Yes, if you can't tell, the members of Pale Sunday are romantics.
The ideal world in Pale Sunday's universe is one where the good times play out in slow motion, where the ideal summer never ends.
The second half of the album is marked by that real-life sadness, from the passionate goodbye song "She'll Never Be Mine" through to the gorgeous "Strangeways." That album-ending narrative is in turns both hopeful and not, as it follows the meeting of two hearts ("a perfect moment"), and their parting ("dreams seem so far away").

Pale: Reviews, Discography, Audio Clips, and more ||| Music.com
As with the band's debut, Bread and Circus, Toad the Wet Sprocket 's Pale was recorded virtually live in the studio, a tactic the band would sadly abandon to varying degrees with each future album.
Bread and Circus abides by this axiom obediently to mostly stellar results; Pale, however, embraces the notion without reservation, and the improvement between the pair of albums is remarkable.
Pale is early Toad at its old-soul peak.

The Wig Fits All Heads - REVIEW - The Pale - November 23, 2004
Archer positively breathed the lyrics, "All the while, with your big dumb smile." He even paid props to his hometown saying, "I'm very proud to be from Bellingham," to which the audience cheered their approval.
The Pale's album doesn't do their live show justice, as the audience can clearly see the band come alive through the music and the crowd at their shows.
The Pale's positive attitude is a breath of fresh air in an industry where many musicians take themselves too seriously.

PyroMusic.net - Review of: Agalloch - Pale Folklore
Their ability to combine melody with melancholy is truly remarkable and so much emotion is conveyed through time changes, progressive riffs, varied vocals and stroke-of-genius musical elements (such as the tolling bells which appear in the later part of the track) that this track is enough to put most respectable metal acts to shame.
Not to be overshadowed by the earlier tracks, the final three songs included on the 8-track album are as equally excellent in their structure, sound and execution as their precursors, making for a grand finish to a truly great album.
Throughout 'Pale Folklore' in the months that followed my first listening the one thing that really struck me was the brilliant musicianship of the band who have such an exceptionally refined sound that it's near impossible to fault them for a thing.

Yet I still return to those albums sometimes for that quality of innocence in their spare guitar-driven progressive melodies, and so the band tends to be fairly innofensive and even dull at times, they have moments of real transcendence.
"pale" may not rank up w/ the commerical success of "fear" or the brilliance of "dulcinea" but it is surely not to be ignored by any toad fan.
"Pale pales in comparison to other Toad albums." I was introduced to Toad with Coil, their final studio album that spawned some radio and television play (Dawson's Creek, &c,).

AGALLOCH Pale Folklore review by Trickster F.(Ivan "Frost")
Although Pale Folklore is more often dynamic, the mood of the album is melancholic from the beginning until the end.
The album has a specific mood and everything: the music, the instruments, the vocals and the lyrics follow it without a single failure, which I find remarkable.
No matter what listener you are, Agalloch's Pale Folklore should be as dear and special to any listener, as it is to me. The album's successor, The Mantle is appreciated more widely, but personally I think that this is the best starting point for any intellectual and adventorous fan of music.

This is a subtle album, it has melody but is not necessarily catchy and it is heavy but this does not disguise the subtleties of the guitarists and the vocals. They write good, not obvious song structures, which i give them respect for.
This album is very dark with a feeling of despair to it, which it should because they're a doom metal band.
This album is aptly titled because from the very first track one word that could be used to describe it is "Haunting." The disc starts of with a nice tribal beat then goes into a death metal song and from there you are just left with chills.

Miwon - Pale Glitter - almost cool music review
The original version of that song is included on this debut album along with 11 other warm electronic pop tracks, and the solid release should mark Miwon as an artist worth paying attention to.
Some of the best tracks on the album are also the ones where Miwon strips things down and simply lets his minimal dancefloor side roll.
As a whole, Pale Glitter is a pretty engaging disc, despite a couple soft spots that don't seem to have the same lush aesthetic (namely the aforementioned "Flakes" and a couple others).

Pale Sunday's debut album certainly took its time, but it's been certainly worth the wait: "Summertime" is a passionate rendition of Pale Sunday's love for pop music, that shows the full songwriting potential of Luiz, Fabricio and Sineval.

The album "Inner Pale Sun" is comprised of 8 songs and features instruments such as violin, harpsichord, timpani, piano, ect...or is at least representative of such instruments.
There are no instruments on this this album that are typically the basis for any metal album, so really the only thing metal about this album is the atmosphere conveyed.
The downfall of the album is the fact that their is no metal on it.

With a single shot, this band has catapulted themselves straight into the upper eschelon of the pure doom hierarchy--though it may seem at first glance they had a major assist, upon close listen, it is clear the victory is entirely their own.
Pale Divine's sound, beyond the fact Bobby Liebling makes two appearances on this record, is rooted in the Pentagram style of doom.
However, Pale Divine mixes this with a Judas Priest influence and their own originality to create a sound that is entirely their own.

Often acoustic and a tempo best suited for shaking a hangover on a Sunday morning, those two albums were strictly "fans only" type of albums.
Sadly, those albums were more mood music than works that could stand on their own.
And, after my column on double albums, I have to admit...that one is a definitive keeper with maybe one filler song.

 Agalloch Reviews at Lunar Hypnosis
As for 'Pale Folklore' it instantly hit me as being amazing while 'The Mantle' took me about 4 or 5 listens until I could see what a piece of artwork it is. I've been questioning myself this over and over again, and I think it of course has to do with the music change.
Agalloch albums have always been a weird experience to me on the first listen, and indeed I’ve been giving the opportunity to hear this new album long before the general public is able to (August 8, is the release day).
With ‘The Mantle’ in 2002 I had bought the album on the first day of the 2002 Metalfest in Milwaukee and after a day of loud music and intense head banging I was so out of it I actually feel asleep when I got home and started to listen to the album.

The Metal side of the album is very well played and the catchiness and great epic melodies one would expect from such a band are all there.
That's really a small complaint though as the album is still a pleasure to listen to and nothing is so overpowering that it detracts from any of the music.
If this debut album is this good, I can only imagine how that second album sounds after they've had some time together as a band.

I became familiar with the band´s debut album A PALE DEBILITATING AUTUMN 10 years ago already and was somewhat completely blown away by what I got to discover from that awe-inspiringly technical Death Metal disc.
By that album, Pavor also became one of my very favorite German metal bands immediately even if I thought they were ´only 1 album miracle´ simply because I didn´t hear anything from them for many years.
Shortly after the release of your debut album, Holger Seebens was forced to leave the band due to having "not that developed skills to follow other musicians' strong musical development in the band" as you have officially stated in your website.

They only made one "truly" great album (ie one that I'd put in my overall top 100) in their career (in my opinion), but they had the good fortune to make quite a few very very good albums, all of which are quite recommendable.
And finally, the penultimate track of the original album, Good Captain Clack, probably could have stayed in the outtakes box without hurting the album, were it not for the goofy group harmonies in the middle without which I can't imagine this album.
The songs are all good, yet as an album, it manages to simultaneously succeed marvelously (due to the incredible richness) and, well, not succeed so marvelously (as they fail to, if I may bring in terminology from my chosen field, hedge against "tempo risk").

The only problem with this album is the thing that plagues so many good albums- tracks that would be good on other albums feel like filler due to the outstanding quality of songs placed next to them.
Pop albums were not made in vain- all pop albums are made to be enjoyed by happy people or to cheer sad people up.
The Pale’s “Gravity Gets Things Done” actually succeeds in doing that- the charm, finesse, and charge of The Pale is taking them to great heights in the pop world- so much so that they occasionally overshadow themselves.
