  Paleogeography
We therefore concentrate on the paleogeography of the Paleozoic, Mesozoic, and Cenozoic.
The paleogeography of North America in the Cambrian was similar to that in the Late Proterozoic, where much of the continent was flooded by a large inland sea.
The paleogeography of the Ordovician in the west and middle parts of the U.S. were similar to that of the Cambrian, where a shallow inland sea existed.

Palaeogeography - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Paleogeography (sometimes spelled palaeogeography) is the study of the ancient geologic environments of the Earth's surface as preserved in the stratigraphic record.
Paleogeographic analysis is used in the detailed study of sedimentary basins in petroleum geology.
Thus paleogeography provided critical evidence for the development of continental drift and current plate tectonic theories.

 Trilobite Paleogeography
Paleogeography offers some of the same approach, but must take into account the fact of plate tectonics, and the changing of continental and ocean basin patterns over the course of hundreds of millions of years.
The paleogeography of trilobites is particularly important because they were extremely diverse, were distributed all over the globe, and offer much insight on paleoenvironments and biostratigraphy.
One interesting example of trilobite paleogeography involves the Devonian trilobite sites of Oklahoma (such as the famous Haragan Formation), and those of Morocco (such as the prolific Hamar Laghdad Formation of the Atlas Mountains).

We interpret paleogeography broadly to include all aspects of map reconstruction from paleo-continental orientations and tectonic considerations to the delineation of past topographic or bathymetric contours and the compilation of lithofacies data.
In addition we use the reconstructions as base information for studies of past fossil distributions, and for climatic or oceanographic patterns as determined from the fossils, the sediments and from computer modeling studies.
Our team has worked since the plate tectonic paradigm was introduced to compile information mainly from the literature on all aspects of global paleogeography.

 Paleogeography and Prehistory
Paleogeography offers a way of analyzing the past.
While mythology is not a good source of information, the result can be compared to mythology.
Thus, paleogeography can help explaining the origin of myths—and occasionally, myths can teach us just how disastrous the effects were of past geologic events.

Neodymium isotopic composition of Ordovician conodonts as a seawater proxy: Testing paleogeography
Isotopic variations reveal the existence of distinct oceanic masses and epeiric seas that constrain the position of plates and terranes relative to these water masses and hence constrain models of regional and global paleogeography.
Regional and global models of paleogeography are considered in light of these proxy signals.
This study also reveals that conodonts are powerful geochemical tools for obtaining information on ancient water masses.
