The Pali Text Society was founded in 1881 by T.W. Rhys Davids "to foster and promote the study of Pali texts".
Pali is the language in which the texts of the Theravada school of Buddhism is preserved.
The Pali Text Society was founded on the model of the Early English Text Society with Rhys Davids counting on support from a lot of European scholars and Sri Lankan scholar monks.

Pali scholarship in Northern India generally ended with the rise of the Sena dynasty, with an uncertain process of decline in peninsular India, perhaps lasting the longest in Orissa, i.e., eventually ending (along with Buddhist practice itself) with the fall of the last resistance to the expanding Muslim empires on the subcontinent.
Since the 19th century, various societies for the revival of Pali studies in India have promoted awareness of the language and its literature, perhaps most notably the Maha Bodhi Society founded by Anagarika Dhammapala.
The Pali Text Society was in part founded to compensate for the very low level of funds allocated to Indology in late 19th century England; incongruously, the English were not nearly so robust in Sanskrit and Prakrit language studies as Germany, Russia and even Denmark --a situation that many would say continues to this day.

 Establishing Pali Text Society for Buddhist literature
In the course of this lectures, Rhys Davids announced his intention to establish the Pali Text Society for the exclusive purpose of translating and publishing Buddhist literature.
Though, the Pali Text Society is set up in London, the Society never attempted to Anglicise the Buddhist teaching to suit the whims and fancies of some people as it is done particularly in Sri Lanka deliberately and otherwise.
Back to Rhys Davids and the Pali Text Society, the credit must be showered to the husband-wife duo whose pioneering efforts to learn Sinhala and Pali and Buddhist realizing the efficacy of the Buddha word they made an earnest endeavour to propagate the sublime teaching throughout the globe.

Now that a basic outline of the various popular definitions of death has been briefly presented, it becomes necessary to examine the several approaches that have been employed to reconcile the “whole-brain” versus the “cerebral” conceptions of death with Buddhist teachings.
Unfortunately, there is no clear-cut Buddhist doctrine spelling out precisely what it is that constitutes death, and so scholars have been forced to examine the various canonical texts from the starting point of the two competing definitions of death just outlined.
