However, in addition to the 1,400-lb pallasite, a few smaller masses have been recovered by Steve Arnold and his team.
Sale material is not taken from the 1,400-lb pallasite, but from others pallasitse from the same fall, found in the same field, and at the same time as the World Record Meteorite.

Pallasite is the unique combination of an iron-nickel alloy with olivine, a meteorite dotted with interplanetary peridot dated at 4.5 billion years old.
Many of the olivines in pallasite are barely thick enough to facet, which is why pallasite is mostly seen as slabs that can be set in pendants, sometimes accented with diamonds.
It is thought that pallasite sustained meltdowns in outer space while still in the asteroid stage, and this effect caused the iron-nickel cores to fuse with the olivine mantles.

A pallasite was seen to fall on May 16, 1981, and a single 253.5 kg mass was located a short time thereafter along the Omolon River in the Magadan region of the USSR.
These three pallasites have the highest Fa value and the highest Ni content of all other pallasites, and their chromium and oxygen isotope systematics suggest that a genetic relationship exists between the EST pallasites and the CV3 parent body.
This pallasite is unusual for its Ir enrichment and moderate As and Au enrichment in metal.

 PSRD: Meteorite QUE 93148: Asteroid Mantle Material?
Pallasites are stony iron meteorites that consist predominantly of large olivine crystals in a metal matrix (see the photo below.) They are generally thought to represent material from the core-mantle boundary of an asteroid.
UE 93148 cannot be directly related to the pyroxene pallasites because of their different oxygen isotopic compositions, but its oxygen isotopes are similar to the main group pallasites (and the crustal HED meteorites).
If the main group pallasites and the HED meteorites are indeed from the same parent body and if this parent body is in fact the asteroid 4 Vesta (two big unresolved 'ifs') then QUE 93148 might be our first sample from the mantle of this asteroid.

The Brenham pallasite was found in Brenham, Kiowa County, Kansas U.S.A. in 1882.
Due to the highly fractured nature of the olivine crystals, prepared slices should be a minimum of 5-6mm thick.
Any prepared surface should be thoroughly flushed and stabilized to reduce oxides from developing under the crystals.

One of the most inclusive descriptions is as follows: Half iron and half stone, the Pallasite Meteorite (Space Wanderer) on display in the Celestial Museum at the Big Well in Greensburg, is the largest meteorite of its kind yet discovered.
In 1949, H.O. Stockwell, with the aid of a modern metal detector and equipment rigged at the Peck farm, uncovered the largest pallasite found to date,The Space Wanderer, weighing 1000 pounds.
The pallasite was placed in the Greensburg Big Well Museum in 1949, where it has been on display and is seen by many thousands of tourists each year.

This is one of only three known Moroccan Pallasite meteorites...compared to thousands and thousands of chondrites.

The main mass was found in 1937 - with its 1411.5kg the largest single specimen of a pallasite, surrounded by 900kg of iron shale.

The Springwater Pallasite was first found in 1931, and consisted of three masses of 85 pounds, 41 pounds, and 23 pounds.
While there is a fair amount of the Springwater Pallasite in several of the well known institutional collections, there is not a lot of this Pallasite in the hands of private collectors.
Many large examples of this large Pallasite were found, after the initial discovery of a 12 to 15 lb.

In Kansas, the Big Well and the World's Largest Pallasite Meteorite are two such strange bedfellows -- a hole in the ground and an astral hole-maker.
The well had a small part in the race between the Sante Fe and Rock Island railroad lines, which were frantically building west in the late 19th century.
Dubbed the "Space Wanderer" when discovered in 1949, the 1,000 pound Pallasite boulder was promptly placed in the Big Well "Museum." There it sits today.
