  The Bagwere of Pallisa
Many Ugandans are aware that the Bagwere who occupy the district of Pallisa in eastern Uganda are a tribe from Bantu ethnic group of people.
The Bantu group is spread all over the southern, eastern and some central areas of Africa.
Socially, the Bagwere are organized into clans based on totems and a groups area of residence in Pallisa.

Pallisa District lies in Eastern Uganda, containing a population of almost half a million people and covering an area of just under 2,000 km2.
Most of the inundated and flood recession areas in and around Pallisa's wetlands are used for subsistence agriculture, mainly rice growing, and for grazing.
Wetlands also provide other services which are valuable for both rural farmers and for the District's urban population, such as flood control, water purification, and maintenance of year-round water supplies for urban, industrial and irrigated agricultural use.

The only information is from the DVO of Masindi to the DVO of Pallisa, stating the name of the person who is trailing the animals on foot, and the purpose is that he is taking the animals for breeding in Pallisa.
As far as we knew, they had no animals in Pallisa, they do not have land in Pallisa, but they are saying they are going back to their land in Pallisa.
Pallisa was one of the areas that was specifically affected by the cattle rustling.

The goals of this activity are to develop the capability at Makerere to use TOA for agricultural and environmental policy analysis in Uganda.

A September inter-agency assessment of Katakwi, Kumi, Pallisa, Soroti, and Tororo Districts in eastern Uganda indicates that poor rainfall performance during critical stages of crop growth resulted in low yields, approximately 60 to 65 percent of normal.
Although food stocks are adequate until the next harvest, there are pockets of food insecurity in eastern Tororo, northern Kumi, and Pallisa Districts that normally experience low rainfall, and Kapelebyong and Usuk counties in Katakwi District that are affected by civil insecurity.
It was observed that although food stocks are adequate until the next season's harvest, there are pockets of food insecurity in Tororo county (Tororo District), and northern Kumi and Pallisa Districts, areas that normally experience low rainfall, in addition to Usuk and Kapelebyong Counties in Katakwi District.

Since then, the "Friends of Pallisa" has been formed and the Charity has helped over two hundred and fifty children, some who are often left to run a household themselves and the Charity provides a guardian to help them.
It also guides the children through their education and helps them generate household income through keeping livestock and growing crops.
Plans for the future include helping more children and in the longer term to build a vocational school on a piece of land already donated by a Ugandan.

Over all, up to 48% of the land under crops was occupied by finger millet, an indication of the significance of the crop at household level in the eastern region.
Granaries were reported to be the traditional storage facilities in the study districts, but a general rise in theft among communities has forced farmers to keep their produce in more secure places.
In contrast, both gender groups participated equally in sowing in Pallisa district. ; Weed management and harvesting are done by both sexes.  However, while both sexes are involved, this is largely done by men in  Kamuli and Pallisa.
