The Palm III’s 4-bit greyscale screen is, to all intents and purposes, perfectly functional for the primary duties of personal information management although it is noticeably inferior to later monochrome PDAs having that old fashioned “transparent” nature about it.
Palm IIIxe, the III uses a simple speaker in conjunction with various beeps and bleeps.
The Palm III ships with 2 Mb of memory, which I believe is the most that the processor can access.

The Palm itself is a great little gadget, of course I'm someone who loves gadgets.
Now, the Palm III isn't USB friendly without an adapter (more money) and it's pretty easily breakable (just drop it) I'm of the opinion that you should be able to drop it or sit on it without completely destroying it.
If I was buying today, I'd go with a HandSpring Visor, they're cheaper that the 3Com devices, run the Palm OS (with some enhancements) offer more expandability, and include a USB connection, besides that though, I think the Palm III is a top notch organizer.
