An aerial tramway is a type of aerial lift, sometimes called a cable car or ropeway, and frequently incorrectly referred to as a gondola.
Aerial tramways differ from gondola lifts in that the latter use several smaller cabins circulating on a looped cable, and can be stopped at intermediate or end stations for passenger loading and unloading when uncoupled from their haulage cable by releasing cable grips.

May 31, 2005: A TripAdvisor Member, Crewe, UK The view from the tramway is really great, and the 360 degree rotation allows you to see the whole view wherever you stand (if the rotation is too much to cope with then the middle part of the car is static).
The real treat is the San Jacinto national park accessible from the top of the tramway.
It is a fantastic place to go when it is unbearably hot in Palm Springs as the temperature is around 30 degrees F cooler than in the valley (so take appropriate clothing).
