Circle changeup - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
In baseball, a circle changeup is a pitch thrown with a grip that includes a circle formation, hence the name.
The circle is formed by putting the index fingertip against the thumb tip, and holding the ball against the palm with the remaining three fingers.
The circle changeup is a variation of the straight changeup.

Palm mutes are executed by resting the edge of the picking hand's palm on the strings near the bridge, producing a dampened sound.
Palm muting is so widely used as to be idiomatic in hard rock, heavy metal, and particularly thrash, speed and death metal, but it is often found in any style of music that features electric guitars with distortion in the signal's pre-amplification stage.
Palm muting can also be heard in The Animals' "House of the Rising Sun", and is employed on both acoustic and electric guitars by Al Di Meola.

The changeup is sometimes called an off-speed pitch, although that term can also be used simply to mean any pitch that is slower than a fastball.
One such pitcher is Trevor Hoffman, who is renowned for a devastating changeup combined with an average speed fastball.
There are several types of changeup, which are generated by using different grips on the ball during the pitch.

OK, now that you've got your grip, hold the baseball deep in the palm of your hand to maximize friction and to "de-centralize" the force of the baseball when the pitch is released.
I also discuss this in my three-finger changeup article, but one great way to develop "fastball mechanics" but changeup speed is to practice throwing your changeup as you long toss (throwing beyond 90 feet).
THE PALMBALL (sometimes called a "palm ball" or "four-finger changeup") is one of two or three variations of the changeup.

My experience has been that a palm ball is actually a VERY difficult pitch for a young pitcher to control.
This doesn't mean that a palm ball is a bad pitch or that, later, a pitcher may prefer it when his hand gets larger.
That's where the good changeups happen...the hitter reacts to fastball arm speed, and the ball is not quite there yet, weaker contact/no contact can result.....

The most important thing to realize is that the grip of the changeup is meant for you wrist to be able to break and not to be straight or stiff.
The concept then of the changeup is to let the ball come off your fingers.
The ball must lie or rest on the balls of your fingers (meaning where your fingers are attached to your palm).

The key to the pitch, he explains -- the Coca-Cola formula of his changeup -- is how he pinches the seam of the ball with his thumb and index finger as he releases it.

In batting practice, most hitters work on their timing, they are getting loose; maybe working on hitting the ball the other way, keeping the hands inside, or creating a good downward path, but ultimately, a big league hitter relies primarily on the instincts he’s built over years and years of game at bats.

As a catcher I can't tell you how frustarated i get when one of those wanna be all stars throws a "change up" that goes 10 feet over my head, or one that lands in the dirt so hard that it sprays me with a nuclear explosion sized dust cloud.
The tendency, then, will be to try to throw it harder, but in doing so you might have to change your mechanics but the idea of a change-up is too keep everything else about the pitch the same as your fastball so the batter can't read the difference until it's too late to adjust.
