The hut of station of the British Antarctic Survey was loaned to the U.S. Government on July 2, 1963, which converted it into a biological laboratory in January 1965 for use by American scientists at the nearby Palmer Station.
The station of the British Antarctic Survey consisted of a hut and was occupied from February 27, 1955 until January 10, 1958.
The station of the British Antarctic Survey was destroyed by fire on December 28, 1971 while being renovated by the British Antarctic Survey.

Palmer Station is one of the three United States research stations located in Antarctica.
Introduction: The Palmer Long-Term Ecological Research (LTER) study area is located to the west of the Antarctic Peninsula extending South and North of the Palmer Basin from onshore to several hundred kilometers off shore.
The Palmer LTER is one of more than two dozen LTER research sites located largely throughout the United States, each focused on a specific ecosystem, that together consititute the LTER Network.

George was even a part of the Palmer Station Christmas Choir, a nice group of folks from the station who spent a month practicing so they could sing for the rest of us before dinner.
Station B we were able to sample on the 23rd of December, and we had been trapped by ice for so long, that we actually sampled Station E on Christmas Day, since it was the first time the ice had cleared.
We were headed out to Station E with a big white line across the horizon, which as we got a little closer, we could see was Station E – completely obstructed by thick brash ice, so we had to turn around.

Awoke this morning to find us anchored off Palmer Station, the US science base on the Palmer Peninsula, located around 64 50 S 64 05 W. The station is actually on Anvers Island.
South of Palmer in Margarite Bay is another large penguin area and this area seems to be stable for the time being.

The tour was a basic 'welcome to Palmer Station', 'this is where things are located' and 'this is what will be expected of you while you are here'.
We spent several hours meeting the 30 or so people who were currently on station, eight of whom were 'winter-overs' and were leaving on the Gould and heading home after having been on station throughout the winter season.
The folks who work at Palmer did a wonderful job of decorating the lounge area with spooky decorations, and we all had a great time showing off our costumes, eating candy, and dancing with all of our new friends.

Using a computer-tracking program I could see that the station would be visible (from a radio standpoint) from Palmer Station two to four times a day.
But as far as I know we were the first to make a contact with the International Space Station from Palmer, and Mike Fincke - KE5AIT is the first to have worked all the 7 continents from the Space Station (and the 3rd to do it from space).
Most everyone on station was interested in hearing this contact, and before it was over we had 17 of the 19 people on station jammed in my shop.

There’s an ice cave near the location of the old Palmer station that opens and closes depending on the amount of glacier calving.
It’s really refreshing to be back at a station with a fun atmosphere where people seem to want to be here instead of just waiting for the winter to be over.
