	Palmerston Island
		The atoll is about 280 miles south of Suvarov Island, 360 miles southeast of Rose Atoll, 400 miles eastward of Niue Island, and 270 miles northwest of Rarotonga, from which it is administered.
		He was married to a woman from Penrhyn Island, and he also left children by his wife's sister and a third Penrhyn woman.
		The island is under the New Zealand Cook Islands Administration.

		There is no safe anchorage, and ships cannot enter the lagoon, although the skilful native boatmen make use of two narrow boat passes north of the western islet, the northern one being said to have about eight feet of water through it.
		Palmerston was discovered by Captain Cook on June 16 1774 on his second voyage to the Pacific although he did not land until his third and final voyage in 1777.
		It is a lucrative catch but they have a big problem getting the supply ship to call regularly and being as the ship doesn’t have a freezer it must come on its way back to Rarotonga which it rarely does so they have a hard time getting their product to market.

	Route Planning for the South Pacific
		Palmerston Island is more direct and we recommend it but we heard great things about Suvarov and it provides a protected anchorage and an easy entrance which has advantages over Palmerston’s outside anchorage.
		From Aitutaki it is still easy to get to Palmerston Island and you can get official permission to visit as Palmerston is not an official port of entry.
		Raro is the capital of the Cook Islands and offers many modern conveniences and recreational opportunities.
