Flat treeless plains in central Argentina, lying between the foothills of the Andes and the Atlantic coast, and stretching north from the Río Colorado to the Gran Chaco; area 750,000 sq km/290,000 sq mi; it incorporates the provinces of Buenos Aires, La Pampa, Santa Fé, and Cordobá.
The eastern pampas consist of grasslands which support large cattle ranches and produce flax and over half the nation's output of grain; the western pampas are arid, unproductive, and sparsely populated.
The province of La Pampa is in the west part of the pampas plains.

Hayworth was trained as a dancer from childhood, and was on stage by the age of twelve.
First attracting the attention of film producers as part of the dance team "The Dancing Cansinos," Hayworth was signed first by Fox Studios in 1935, then free-lanced for several years before signing with Columbia Pictures.
After a name change from Rita Cansino to Rita Hayworth, and painful electrolysis to raise her hairline, Rita made a splash as part of the ensemble cast in Howard Hawks' Only Angels Have Wings (1939).
