Slavic peoples - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
This debate is politically charged, particularly in connection with the history of the Partitions of Poland, and both German and Slavic nationalists have employed either the 'autochthonic' (in the case of the Slavic nationalists) or the 'allochthonic' (in the case of the German nationalists) as tools of political propaganda.
Nazi Germany, whose proponents claimed a racial superiority for the Germanic people, particularly over Semitic and Slavic peoples, plotted an enslavement of the Slavic peoples, and the reduction of their numbers by killing the majority of the population.
The common Slavic experience of communism combined with the repeated usage of the ideology by Soviet propaganda after World War II within the Eastern bloc (Warsaw Pact) was a forced high-level political and economic hegemony of the USSR dominated by Russians, and as such despised by the rest of the conquered nations.

Neue Rheinsiche Zeitung No. 194 January 1849
The direct aim of pan-Slavism is the creation of a Slav state under Russian domination, extending from the Erzgebirge and the Carpathians to the Black, Aegean and Adriatic seas — a state which would include, besides the German, Italian, Magyar, Wallachian, Turkish, Greek and Albanian languages, also approximately a dozen Slav languages and basic dialects.
Let us, however, also remark at the outset that the Poles have revealed great political understanding and a true revolutionary spirit by now entering into an alliance with their old enemies, the Germans and Magyars, against the pan-Slav counter-revolution.
The Southern Slavs, who for a thousand years have been taken in tow by the Germans and the Magyars, only rose up in 1848 to achieve their national independence in order thereby at the same time to suppress the German-Magyar revolution.

 8iboh10.txt
The original theory of Pan-Germanism was the consolidation and unity of the whole German nation corresponding to the movement of the Italians for national unity.
The Austrian Germans and the Magyars occupy the centre, while the Czecho-Slovaks inhabit the north (Bohemia, Moravia, Silesia and Slovakia), and the Yugoslavs ten provinces in the southern part of the monarchy.
The legitimate claims of the Germans to national unity became unjust and dangerous for Europe when the Germans began to think of subduing the whole of Central Europe to their hegemony, which meant the subjugation of some 100 million Slavs and Latins.

Pan-Slavism. The Columbia Encyclopedia, Sixth Edition. 2001
Slavic historians, philologists, and anthropologists, influenced by Johann Gottfried von Herder, helped spread a national consciousness among the Slavs, and some dreamed of a unified Slavic culture to replace an allegedly declining Latin-German culture.
In 1908, Russia was forced to allow Austrian annexation of Bosnia and Hercegovina, but in 1914 Russia supported Serbia in the crisis that began World War I. After the Bolsheviks triumphed in the Russian Revolution of 1917, the Soviet government renounced Pan-Slavism.
In World War II, however, Pan-Slavist slogans were revived to facilitate Slavic and Communist dominance of Eastern European countries.

Slavs. The Columbia Encyclopedia, Sixth Edition. 2001
The Slavs were probably dominated in succession by the Scythians and the Sarmatians (both Iranian tribes), by the Goths, by the Huns, and by the Avars, in whose westward expansion they shared and whose slaves they often were.
The history of the West Slavs and the South Slavs during the past three centuries is dominated by their struggles for liberation from Turkish, German, and Magyar domination.
The ancestors of the Slavs were Neolithic tribes who occupied this territory a few centuries before the Christian era, and the similarities of these Proto-Slavs to the Proto-Balts has led to a theory of a Proto-Baltic Slav period (see Balts).

From Pan-Islamism to Turkish Nationalism: modernisation and German influence in the late Ottoman period
Even during the reign of Abdülhamit, it was assured that efforts to restrict the flow of ideas and to stress the Islamic features of his office would not be uniformly received within the Arab provinces of the Empire due to different local conditions and great confessional diversity.
Although schematic classifications run the risk of oversimplification, it is generally acknowledged that the dominant political trends among the Arabs during and after Abdülhamit's reign were Islamism, Ottomanism, and a growing sense of Arab cultural distinctness.
In the Syrian provinces of the Empire, Islamic reformism worked in combination with Ottomanism to produce a vision of the Ottoman caliphate as a vital symbol of the independence of Islam from Europe.

Schanfield said the Bundt pans — originally spelled Bund, German for “people” — were a source of funds for Hadassah for many years.
Now celebrating its 54th anniversary, the Bundt pan was the brainchild of members of the Minneapolis chapter of Hadassah, who in 1950 approached aluminum manufacturer H. David Dalquist with the idea for the cake pan.
So Joshua brought her heavy iron pan to Dalquist, chairman, owner and founder of Northland Aluminum, which sells the Nordic Ware line of baking pans, and asked if he could fashion a similar one for her.

 The Sudentendeutsche Landsmannschaft
One of the most significant results of this policy was to make the Sudeten Germans staunch anti-communists.13 Prague in turn has viewed the SL as a revanchist organization with pan-germanic aims.14 Needless to say, both sides believed the existence of the other precluded the achievement of their own foreign policy goals.
One Sudeten German leader voicing the latter opinion explained that the SL "(does) not want to be a mere cultural society, or an auxiliary wing of political parties, but an ethnic organization with responsibilities and aspirations unique for all times."8l However, his was a dissenting voice amidst a growing acceptance of a conciliatory line.
As a measure of Sudeten German vitality, the rally reveals an almost uninterrupted well-being since the first one took place in 1950.82 Because this event provides a common thread in the SL chronology, it constitutes an appropriate transition from the first to the second period of SL history.
