Pananjakman - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Pananjakman is the Filipino martial art of low-line kicking, associated with Eskrima.
Some people claim that it is an art of itself, others claim that someone just took the kicking portion of Eskrima and put the name Pananjakman on it to make some money with this "new" system.
Pananjakman is not known in the Philippines itself but only in the West.

Academy of Jeet Kune Do Fighting Technology
Pananjakman, the name given to these combative kicks, has proven to be an integral part of the eskrima system in particular.
While not as aesthetically appealing as, say, the flashy kicks of tee kwon do, pananjakman techniques have proven especially effective for diverting an opponent's attention and disrupting his timing and balance, which then affords the eskrimador an opening to attack.
Using a form of "triangle" movement, the eskrimador skilled in pananjakman is able to change positions frequently, with no apparent shifting of his upper body to telegraph his intentions.

This "game" is not as popular today, and is perhaps one of the fundamental training exercises in Pananjakman.
Finally, Pananjakman is frequently paired with Panantukan to create a complete fighting system.
The kicking art serves to distract the opponent while the punching art incapacitates him.

Some consider Panuntukan to be "dirty street-fighting," however, none can deny its effectiveness.
Sikaran, or Pananjakman, is the art of Filipino kicking; it is the opposite of Panuntukan.
Any techniques are allowed, except the arms can only be used defensively.

Much has been written about the Filipino kicking styles of sikaran or pananjakman.
I had a short stint with Filipino Yaw-Yan in Manila...but the high kicks seemed a bit impractical for the street.
I've read that Pananjakman mainly consists of low-line kicks, including the oblique kick and the stomp.

Beeing a pure BJJ'er for a few years now I usually don't speak much on my old JKD stuff.
But I remember watching Paul Vunak teaching Pananjakman, and showing to add in these little outside low heel kicks to the tendon behind the knee while you were doing Hubud upstairs...I kinda thought, "EH..I don't know about these, pretty weak.."
Well, I'm watching UFC 49 today and there's Josh Thompson and Yves Edwards all tied up and throwing pananjakman heel kicks at each other..I couldn't believe it!
