 Malaya-The National Newspaper
As I look around in the Visayas and Mindanao, I can see many potential catastrophes just waiting to happen at the convergence of separate natural events like those that caused the past floods and landslides at Ormoc and on Camguin and the recent landslides on Panaon Island.
These are areas that are in or near geologic faults, are stripped of forest cover, have rapid rise in elevation from sea level to top of mountains.
As long as we remain unmindful of these physical trends and neglect our responsibility toward our environment, we will never make progress in improving the quality of life in this country.
