Ilaya Raja of the Pandalam Palace Uthradomnaal P.R. Rajaraja Varma inaugurated the fast by lighting a ceremonial lamp in a specially erected pandal at Pandalam junction at 9 a.m.
Pandalam Palace Managing Committee president P. Ramavarma Raja and secretary P. Rajaraja Varma have alleged that the Travancore Devaswom Board (TDB) was trying to alter many an age-old custom and tradition in Sabarimala.
They alleged that the move to "belittle the Pandalam Palace" in connection with the Sabarimala affairs was part of this TDB game plan.

It may be noted that a major chunk of the culturally renowned Onattukara will be part of the new district along with the Thiruvalla-Kumbanad NRI belt, which accounts for a substantial inflow of foreign currency.

The board has issued a show-cause notice to temple tantri Matatthil Kantararu Maheshwari, even though the priest is not an employee of the board and owes his position to the right bestowed on his family by the Travancore kings generations ago to conduct worship at the shrine.
The sources said the board was trying to interfere in the tantri's family matters, and said the Pandalam royal family and the priestly family would jointly oppose the "nefarious" attempts to disgrace him.

 Sabarimala temple to remain shut to women
Panicker has asked the sword and the crown (thirumugham), which is placed on the deity by the Pandalam royal family, to be re-made.
He said that Panicker had suggested that a ropeway could be constructed from the foothills to the temple and it could be done if a devotee came forward to "build a ropeway in the form of an offering".
While the TDB is firm in going ahead with the "corrective rituals", the Pandalam Family Association has announced that it would approach the court against the findings of Panicker.

He said that the `devaprasanom' recommended that the `thiruvabharanam' which was kept at the Pandalam palace be replaced.
