The range of Pandalus borealis in the northwest Atlantic is from the southern coast of Greenland to the Massachusetts coast.
Shrimp Trapping: Pandalus borealis is commercially harvested on the northeast coast of the United States and Nova Scotia using a rectangular wire mesh trap with an entrance on the top which costs between $50 and $70.
Pandalus borealis is a cold water shrimp and, therefore, must not be permitted to warm.

PROCEEDING OF THE WORLD SCIENTIFIC CONFERENCE ON THE BIOLOGY AND CULTURE OF SHRIMPS AND PRAWNS
Pandalus borealis, the deep-water prawn or the pink shrimp, is abundant in waters deeper than 100 fm (200 m) near Newfoundland.
borealis populations live throughout the year in temperatures close to 5°C. Individuals from such populations apparently become females in their fourth year and spawn annually in the next two or three years that they live.
During the summers of 1957 and 1958 a survey was made to determine the distribution of fishable quantities of Pandalus borealis (deep-water prawn or pink shrimp).

North Pacific: Bering Sea to S.E. Siberia, Japan and Oregon (U.S.A.).The taxonomic status of the North Pacific form, usually considered a subspecies Pandalus borealis eous Makarov, 1935, is not fully clear yet.
In the Northern Pacific Pandalus borealis eous also is of economic importance.
Longhurst (1970:270-272) mentioned that the species is important on the west coast of Kamchatka, while in the Bering Sea and Gulf of Alaska it forms 80 to 90% of the shrimp catch.

By combining field data and laboratory observations of larvae in a simulated thermal gradient, we described the ontogenetic changes in vertical distribution and behaviour of early stages of shrimp Pandalus borealis in thermally stratified water columns.
borealis should be valuable information for future attempts to model larval transport and dispersion, and for detecting settlement/recruitment areas using 3D ocean circulation models.

Apparatus for controlling precooking and machine peeling shrimp - Patent 4862794
As will be appreciated by those skilled in the art, certain species of northern type shrimp such as the Pandalus Borealis can be peeled much more efficient and with less meat loss if the shrimp are cooked prior to such peeling.
Peeling of cold water shrimp such as Pandalus Borealus has remained essentially the same since effective peeling of this type shrimp was made possible by the "Shrimp Peeling and Cooking Apparatus" invented by J. Lapeyre and described in U.S. Pat.
The two Lapeyre patents are related in that they are concerned with precooking cold water shrimp such as Pandalus Borealis prior to peeling.

Astaxanthin - Clinical Study 117 | AHD International, LLC
Negative ion liquid chromatography-atmospheric pressure chemical ionization mass spectrometry [negative ion LC-(APCI)MS] was used for the identification of astaxanthin esters in extracts of commercial shrimp (Pandalus borealis) and dried microalga (Haematococcus pluvialis) samples.
This LC-(APCI)MS method allows for the first time the characterization of native astaxanthin esters in P. borealis and H. pluvialis without using time-consuming isolation steps with subsequent gas chromatographic analyses of fatty acid methyl esters.
The results suggest that the pattern of astaxanthin-bound polyunsaturated fatty acids of P. borealis does not reflect the respective fatty acid pattern found in triacylglycerides.

 Maine Shrimp, Pandalus Borealis
As winter in Michigan crawls through the long, dark month of January, there arises in the mind of this mufflered and down-smothered land mammal the small, bright memory of a special treat from the sea that will soon, contrary to all ordinary expectations, make its brief annual appearance at our local fishmonger’s.
Maine shrimp, or Pandalus borealis, are a small wonder of nature’s bounty in mid-winter.
With this ingenious means to maximize reproduction, Maine shrimp are an important link in marine food chains, feeding on plankton and sea-bed invertebrates, and being consumed in turn by cod, redfish, silver and white hake.
