Bukidnon is a landlocked province of the Philippines located in the Northern Mindanao region.
According to oral history of the indigenous people of Bukidnon, there were four main tribes in Central Mindanao: the Maranao who dwell in Lanao del Sur, and the Maguindanao, Manobo and Talaandig who respectively inhabit the eastern, southern, and north-central portions of the original province of Cotabato.
Bukidnon is subdivided into 20 municipalities and 2 cities.

Bukidnon is a large province (8,294 square km) containing several plateaus that are separated by deep canyons and three major river valleys --the Pulangi, Tagoloan, and Cagayan.
Bukidnon is the only province in Mindanao that does not have a coast line, it being in the north central part of the island.
For purposes of modern classification, lowlanders of the plateau are Bukidnons and higlanders are Manobos.

OUT of ninety-six local government units-national finalists competing for the national awards, the Province of Bukidnon and the municipalities of Kibawe and Pangantucan emerged as national winners for 2004 Gawad Pangulo sa Kapaligiran (GPK) during the awarding rites held last May 18, 2005 at Rizal Hall, Malacañang.
The Province of Bukidnon was heralded as a National Awardee in the GPK Provincial Category.
Another National Awardee was the Municipality of Kibawe, Bukidnon for the 4th-6th Class Municipalities Category, Municipal Mayor Luciano G. Ligan gratefully received the Presidential trophy plus the cash award of P500,000.
