Fusoid-like cells in Panicum sect. Laxa (Poaceae: Panicoideae)   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-11-01)
This paper was presented at the annual meeting of the Botanical Society of America held at the University of Massachusetts on 10-14 Aug. 1986.
Clearings and paradermal sections showed that the fusoid-like cells were more or less rectangular and positioned perpendicularly to the conspicuous bundle sheath cells, but frequently lacunae were noted.
It was suggested that the presence on the leaves of fusoid-like cells/lucunae might be correlated with the occurrence of these Panicum species in shady, wet tropical habitats.
