Paniqui is one of the older towns of Tarlac province.
In 1750, Paniqui, being the initial pueblo of the then Diocese of Nueva Segovia, was the site of the christening of a Muslim sultan, Alimud Din, and the event in the said town resurrected the popular genre of moro-moro, a bombastic play and dance involving warring Christian and Muslim nobles.
As could be gleaned from her account, in an event that could have happened around October, 1901, though the civil government was already established in February 18 of that year, it would still be many months later that the first elected Filipino governor, Don Alfonso Ramos, was to hold office in the province.

The birth of Paniqui could be traced way back in 1712 when the provincial government of Pangasinan sent a group of men south of Bayambang, Pangasinan for the expansion of the Christian Faith.
The pioneering group was led by two brothers, Raymundo and Manuel Paragas of Dagupan and establilshed the Local Government in a Sitio called “manggang marikit” (mango of an unmarried woman) now apart of Guimba, Nueva Ecija.
Surprisingly, in this sitio, sere a great number of mammals called by Ilocanos “pampaniki” and it was from this term that the name Paniqui was derived.

In the town of Paniqui in Tarlac, at least 17 barangays were submerged in water said to be six feet deep due to the collapse of the Colibanbang dike early Friday.
Paniqui administrator Godofredo Tangonan said over national television that there were unconfirmed reports of two children drowning in the floodwaters but the runoff was preventing rescuers from going to the area and rescuing stranded families.
During her visit to flood-stricken towns in the northern provinces of Pampanga and Tarlac, Arroyo ordered local officials in Luzon to monitor water levels of major dams in their respective areas.

PANIQUI, Tarlac — While rescue teams are still having a hard time penetrating western villages in this town that were deluged by strong floodwaters from the earth dike of the Tarlac River, eastern villages in the neighboring town of Moncada were also in need of massive evacuation.
The Tarlac said that of the 5,831 families, or 24,510 persons, affected by floods in 18 barangays, combined rescue teams from the Army, the Navy, Air Force and the local police, as well as the province’s counter-disaster personnel, were still only able to evacuate 429 families, or 2,201 persons.
Worst hit were the provinces of Tarlac, Pampanga, Bulacan, and Pangasinan where a total of 86,479 families composed of 427,150 persons were affected prompting the government to declare these areas in state of calamity.
