 PANNA
Panna is situated in the Vindhyan Range and spreads over Panna and Chhatarpur districts in the northern part of the Madhya Pradesh (M.P.) State of India.
The reserved forests of the Reserve in Panna district and some protected forests on Chhatarpur district were the hunting preserves of the erstwhile rulers of Panna, Chhatarpur and Bijawar princely states.
Panna Tiger Reserve is most important PA in the north-central highlands of India, as it links the eastern and western populations of wild animals through the NE-SW running Vindhyan ranges.

 India diamond deposits, geology, exploration, mining, use - Part VI
At Majgoha (Maigama), southwest of Panna and the most westerly point of the district occupied by this group of mines, the mode' of occurrence of the diamonds is peculiar.
In the mines of Kainariga, north-east of Panna, the diamond-bearing stratum consists of loose, ferruginous earth; it is overlain by a bed 20 feet thick of the firm and coherent Rewah sandstone interbedded with bands of shale.
Some of the mines lie in the immediate neighborhood of Panna (Punnah), to the south-west of Allahabad on the Ganges, others are further away to the west, south and east of this town; all are classed together as the Panna mines.

ON August 6, in an incident claimed to be a case of "sati", a 65-year-old woman of the Nai (barber) caste was burnt to death in Tamoli Patna village in Panna district of Madhya Pradesh in the presence of a 1,000-strong crowd.
The district police, which received information about the event, were physically prevented from rescuing Guttu Bai from the funeral pyre of her husband, 70-year-old Mallu Nai.
Shaily said that it was unusual for a woman to be present in a funeral procession and there was reason to believe that she may have been forced to visit her husband's pyre.
