		Pantar is the second largest island in the Alor archipelago.
		Despite hardly ever being mentioned in guidebooks, Pantar is definitely worthwhile as a tourist destination.
		It offers a friendly rural atmosphere and the island is surrounded by deserted coves and beaches, as well as an active volcano, various hot springs and a beach that has red, white and fl sand.

		Pantars were "Symmetric convertible anastigmats", which means that the two cells will have approximately the same focal length.
		Ole - The front cell of the pantar specified 240mm - the rear cell does not have anything written on it.
		I think eur300 is a bit more than I'd be willing to pay - but if the Pantar is good (and 240mm combinde FL) I might be willing to part with half that for that lens alone and 150 for the other two doesn't seem so bad.

		The Pantar lens is described as a "three-element anastigmat of a good standard of definition over the whole negative area, improving to its maximum when the lens is stopped down to f/8."
		The reply from Charles Barringer (co-author of the Zeiss-Ikon Compendium covering postwar cameras) is that Pantar was first used by C.P Goertz (one of the firms that was part of the merger that formed Ziess-Ikon in the late 1920s).
		I found however the Pantar lens are with purplish optics.

	Diving in Alor, Indonesia
		The Whitfords have been diving the strait between Pantar and Alor since 1992 and have discovered many first class dive sites.
		Dive spot-names like "The Bullet" and "Sharks Gallore" give some hints what diving in Alor is like: Big fish and currents, which are sometimes so strong that you have to pay attention not to loose your mask and regulator.
		As the direction and intensity of the currents is changing quite often, you may have had a relaxing dive in the morning and find the same spot in the afternoon resembling a washing machine.

		The strait between Pantar and Alor is acting like a gigantic jet propelling waters from the Flores Sea in the north to the Savu Sea in the south.
		Also snorkeling with pilot whales that often hunt in the waters between Pantar and Alor is possible.
		Althought diving in alor is also possible from kalabahi, I think that with a liveabord is the best thing to get to see all the dive spots, expecially night dives.

		I agree that the Pantar lens was underated.
		What I've heard also is that the Pantars were made by Rodenstock for Zeiss-Ikon.

		All of the languages in this project are previously undescribed non-Austronesian languages spoken in the Alor archipelago in south-eastern Indonesia.
		On the islands of Alor and Pantar there is a very high level of bilingualism in the local variety of Malay; local languages are generally afforded low status in their speech communities and are regarded as ‘backward’ by residents in town.
		In addition, in many parts of the region, including the speech communities in this study, children are learning the local variety of Malay as their first language and are unable to communicate in the local languages.

		Michael Bode, another dive buddy of mine, had visited this area in 1996 and 97 and also said it was a great place for diving (report in German and English).
		Our expectations were very high and although diving in Alor and Pantar was interesting, we were disappointed by what we saw.
		We spent only three and a half days diving in Alor itself (10 dives) and we saw a total of 2 sharks, a large marble ray, 2 Napoleon wrasses, a small group of barracudas, and some mackerels and tunas.
