Paulino Uzcudun (born May 3, 1899 – died July 5, 1985) was a Basque heavyweight boxer, who is considered to be the greatest heavyweight from Spain.
Uzcudun, known as Paulino in the United States, was the European heavyweight champion, and he fought heavyweight champions Joe Louis, Max Baer, Max Schmeling (thrice) and Primo Carnera during his career.
In the fourth round, Louis hit Uzcudun with a swift, powerful right uppercut that knocked him down and refree stop the fight when Paulino wanted back.

Schmeling defeated Paolino Uzcudun for the first of two times in three fights (the other being a draw) before facing Jack Sharkey for the vacant world title on June 12, 1930 at Yankee Stadium.
Joe Louis, otherwise known as "The Brown Bomber", was also making his ascent at this time, and after defeating Uzcudun, a bout was set up between he and Schmeling on June 18, 1936 in New York.
What he saw after looking at Louis was that Louis dropped his arm for just an instant after throwing a left jab, leaving himself open for a devastating right, which happened to be Schmeling's bread and butter punch.

The fighters arrived three weeks in advance of their Fourth of July bout and fans paid 25 cents each to attend their training camps and watch the fighters spar and toss medicine balls.

This was the same Risko, a big, powerful hitter, who in 1925 gave Tunney a rough time of it for 12 rounds in Cleveland and later trounced Berlenbach in New York.
Schmeling also beat Paolino Uzcudun, the Basque, in 1929, and as the decade closed out, in June of 1930, he was crowned the world heavyweight champion by winning from Jack Sharkey on a foul in the fourth round.
Sharkey had knocked out Loughran in 1929, and he and Schmeling were matched to set up the successor to the title after Tunney had retired.
