John Cipollina - An Appreciation   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-21)
John Cipollina, a founding member of Quicksilver Messenger Service, one of the seminal, psychedelic, San Francisco bands, is still my favorite rock guitarist ten years after his death.
It sounded to me that John's electric guitar playing was the musical essence of electricity itself, as though he was playing the current directly and the guitar was the valve that allowed him to do that.
John was going to be late, it was announced, because he had got married that day.

One of the unlikeliest rock stars ever to grace a stage or album, Papa John Creach was a 53-year-old jazz and blues fiddler who had been playing professionally for more than 30 years when he was "discovered" by Jefferson Airplane in 1970.
John Henry Creach was born May 28, 1917, in Beaver Falls, PA, one of 10 children.
Papa John remained on friendly terms with his former band mates, however, and even guested with JS during its spring 1978 tour.
