Paperback Writer - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
"Paperback Writer" is a song written by Paul McCartney and John Lennon and released by The Beatles on the A side of their eleventh single.
On the U.S. Billboard Hot 100, "Paperback Writer"'s two-week stay at number one was interrupted by Frank Sinatra's "Strangers in the Night".
For the "Paperback Writer" single, the single cover was released in America with photos of The Beatles playing live, but with John Lennon and George Harrison's images reflected so that it appears they are playing left handed.

Paperback Writer, a streamlined version of Executive Writer, gives you basic word processing features and functions at a bargain basement price.
Since Paperback Writer does not use advanced functions such as super- or subscripting or graphics, it also does not use specific printer drivers.
Given the small price differential between the basic Paperback Writer and the more advanced Executive Writer, our recommendation is to pass up Paperback in favor of Executive.

Listening to the song, I decided that paperback meant the back cover of a volume, and a paperback writer was the person who wrote the precis of the contents in a boldly lurid style.
Meanwhile, writers such as Kurt Vonnegut and Philip K Dick took the vibrancy of the type of science fiction yarn found in Astounding Tales magazine and welded it to deft plotting and complex characterisation that could explore intricate ideas about reality and cognition.
So with the paperback edition of Truecrime, I'm hoping that the jacket and blurb are racy enough to inspire the sort of curiosity I felt as a child.

Publishing the novel as a paperback original might seem like an odd strategy when publishers are grabbing every chance to signal the importance of their babies amid the vast clutter of new titles.
Recent studies showing a decline in reading, especially among young people, have many writers and publishers worried, yet few seem likely to ditch what Ebershoff called ''a process from a different era.'' There are powerful incentives to stick with the old way.
Although few publishers still believe that paperback originals are overlooked by book review sections, writers often long for the aura of literary seriousness they believe a hardcover confers.

The advantage of paperback is that if a book proves to be even a modest seller, booksellers are less likely to return all of their copies, figuring they can stock a small number permanently on their shelves - something they rarely do with hardcover books.

 Paperback Writer
Aside from the fact that it's fun, books are what we writers read, enjoy, anticipate, search for, collect, appreciate, ponder, pass along, discuss, analyze, fight for, and believe in.
I know for a fact how much work goes into being a writer who blogs, and how little that effort is recognized and appreciated.
For a chance to win today's giveaway, in comments to this post name an author/blogger you enjoy reading in print, and whether you discovered their books or weblog first (or, if you don't read any author/bloggers, just throw your name in the hat) by midnight EST on December 15, 2006.

In 2002, while holding court in his office overlooking N.Y.C.'s Madison Square Park, David Barker -- a friendly young Englishman editing a series of chapbooks on contemporary American fiction -- decided that it might be nice to produce a set of books focused not on specific novels, but on specific albums.
A motley collection of musicians, critics, writers, and miscellaneous hangers-on would each devote 25,000 words to whatever record happened to fascinate them, from Dusty Springfield to Joy Division to DJ Shadow.
But it wasn't until the English writer Andy Miller's manuscript for the Kinks' Village Green Preservation Society landed on his desk that Barker was convinced he was on the right track.

Notes on "Paperback Writer" and "Rain" (PW_AND_R)   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-11-03)
They went straight to work on what was to become the _Revolver_ album in early April '66, and the two songs on this single, released in June (two months ahead of the album) were recorded just a couple weeks into the new sessions.
- The subject matter, musical style, and recording technique of both "Paperpack Writer" (PW) and "Rain" (R) make them as qualitatively different from what we heard on the album which preceded them as they pressage the album which was yet to follow.
Take 2 of this song provides a perfect proof of this, where you can here them, just before the actual count-in singing the word 'Paperback...' in a nervously tentative stage whisper.
