Papyrus Edwin Smith - Hutchinson encyclopedia article about Papyrus Edwin Smith   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-11-03)
The papyrus contains 48 case histories with instructions for surgery and treatments, including the drugs to be given.
The papyrus, along with other medical papyrii such as the Papyrus Ebers, demonstrates that ancient Egyptian medicine included extensive knowledge of the human body and a wide range of rational treatments for injuries.
In its present form the papyrus has a missing section at the top and stops during the 48th case study.

Julian calendar - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Julian calendar was introduced in 46 BC by Julius Caesar and took force in 45 BC (709 ab urbe condita).
The problems became particularly acute during Julius Caesar's pontificate, 63 BC to 46 BC, when there were only five intercalary months, whereas there should have been eight, and none at all during the five Roman years before 46 BC.
In 1999, an Egyptian papyrus was published which gives an ephemeris table for 24 BC with both Roman and Egyptian dates.

 Chapter 2
Papyrus 46 is 150 years closer to the originals than Aleph or B. It should, therefore, have less error, not more.
It is obvious that the copyist went from the first "umas" ("you") to the second "umas" ("you") and left out the words between: "the churches of Asia salute you." Papyrus 46 has the oldest wording for this verse.
Errors of like-ending omission were also made very early as shown in the examples from Papyrus 46, copied in A.D. The similar sound of Greek letters and the repetition of letters or words caused early mistakes.

They are given that name because they are written on papyrus, an ancient type of writing material made from the fibrous pith of the papyrus plant, which in ancient times grew plentifully along the river Nile.
Then in 1926 Papyrus 37, a 3rd-century fragment of Matthew, was shown by H. Sanders to be Western in its text, (32) and again in the following year Sanders showed the same thing to be true of Papyrus 38, a 3rd or 4th-century fragment of Acts.
The fact that Luke 22:43-44 does not occur in Papyrus 75 indicates that Harnack was right in supposing that it was during the 2nd century that these verses began to be omitted from certain of the New Testament manuscripts.

In evaluating the history of KV 46 as reconstructed by Reeves, one must admit that his evidence for multiple robberies is slim.
It is probably a misnomer to call the fourth post interment entry of KV 46 a "restoration." From the state of disarray found in the burial chamber by the excavators, virtually no actual restoration work was done by the last people who entered the tomb.

The two-story pavilion is filled with copies of ancient depictions of kings and queens, farmers, dancers and acrobats, along with ancient texts on love, poetry and medicine—all reproduced on papyrus sheets produced by Ragab's rediscovered process.

Heinz Schmitz's Response to Lynn Lundquist's "The Tetragrammaton and the Christian Greek Scriptures"
In a fragmentary Greek papyrus scroll discovered in Cave 4 - Pap4QLXXLev b, with parts of Leviticus - "God" is written neither with the full Greek word theos nor with the Greek translation of Adonai, kyrios ('Lord'), but with the Greek vowels alone (!)iota/alpha/omega, to souund something like Ya-oh or Ya-ho.
Their early loss is not surprising, for during persecutions the toll taken by imperial edicts aiming to destroy all copies of the sacred books of Christians must have been heavy.
Furthermore, simply the ordinary wear and tear of the fragile papyrus, on which at least the shorter Epistles of the New Testament had been written (see the reference to CARTHS in 2 John, vs. 12), would account for their early dissolution.
