Can you explain the Parable of the Sower?   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-11-02)
Answer: The Parable of the Sower is one of the seven parables found in Matthew 13, called the kingdom chapter (also recorded in Mark 4: 3-9 and Luke 8: 5-8).
Parable is from the Greek Parabole which means, "…denotes a placing beside…" (W.E. Vine, Expository Dictionary of the New Testament Words.) Jesus is using the Parable of the Sower to teach about and illustrate his kingdom.
Beloved, the thrust of Jesus' parable of the sower is teaching the responsibility of the hearer of the word to have his/her heart prepared to receive the word (the soil types are preexistent to the sowing of the seed), and to consistently produce fruit.

 Parable of the Sower
The parable of the Sower, the first of four parables which Christ gave outside the house, by the seaside, is comprised of four parts.
The parable of the Sower was given with a view to this new entity not only being brought into existence but also being extended the opportunity to bring forth fruit for the kingdom.
Whether dealing with the parable of the Sower, the parable of the wheat and tares, or any of the other parables, the message of salvation by grace through faith is simply not in view.

The uniqueness of this parable is that Jesus categorizes every Christian believer and nonbeliever who hears the word of God (the seed) and how it is manifested in his or her lives.
The parable of the sower, Jesus described how a sower went forth to sow his seed and due to various elements of the world, many did not produce favorably or not at all from a spiritual point of view.
Jesus explain the parable of the sower by saying that when anyone heard the word of the kingdom of God and did not understand it, the wicked one (Satan) then came and caught that which was sown in his heart.

In the Parable of the Sower (Matthew 13:3-8, 19-23; Mark 4:3-9, 14-26; Luke 8:4-8, 11-15), Jesus reveals why, using three component elements: the sower, the seed, and the soils.
This parable describes what happens after the seed is sown, the different types of soils on which it falls, and the resultant effects.
The parable's focus is not on the sower as much as on the various soils.

Therefore to his disciples he said, "hear the parable of the sower!" This statement teaches us that hearing with the natural ear and intellect, as the disciples had, is not adequate.
In the parable of the sower the seed is the Word of God, which is the Word of the kingdom.
This parable so far reveals that the dogmatic areas of wayside hearing and the emotional shallowness of a rocky place mentality are not sufficient to produce the fruit of the kingdom.

 THE PARABLE OF THE SOWER
It is incorrect to view the parable of the Sower as [simply] a harvest parable signifying the reaping of the crop; i.e., the Day of the Lord.
The rule of "end-stress" demonstrates the eschatological harvest to be the prominent aspect of the parable of the Tares.
Regarding the Parable of the Tares, the purported thrust (see Statement of Teaching) for those who doubt the interpretation's genuineness is in marked contrast to Matthew's understanding of the church revealed elsewhere.

NovelGuide: Parable of the Sower: Metaphor Analysis
The dominant metaphor of the novel is that of the seed.
The title itself is taken from the New Testament parable (Luke 8: 5-8) about a sower who sows seed, some of which falls by the wayside, or on rocks or thorns, or is eaten by birds, but some falls on fruitful ground and springs up and bears fruit.
This is exactly what Lauren is doing, except—like Jesus in the parable—her seeds are human beings, some of whom hear her message and respond to it and some of whom do not.

This is not to be confused with the John 15:2 "He cuts off every branch in me that bears no fruit." or the parable of the barren fig tree (Lk 13:6-9), in which there is a complete absence of fruit.
These later represent nominal Christians of a dead faith, as James writes: "faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead." James 2:17 But these do not refer to those among the thorns.
