Powderfinger - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
After two independent EPs released in 1993, they were signed to Polydor and in 1994 released their first album, Parables for Wooden Ears, which charted poorly and failed to launch the band.
During several TV interviews Bernard Fanning has stated that Powderfinger are currently working on a new album to be released late 2006/ early 2007.

Vulture Street: triple j music reviews
I have been a fan of Powderfinger's since Double Allergic and have since bought all of their albums, including their debut studio album Parables for Wooden Ears.
This self-proclaimed album of "dumb rock" (which i prefer to call a licsence to cliche) is not as big a surprise as some of the hype may suggest.
It goes back to Parables For Wooden Ears, and Double Allergic, with great strong guitars, and vocals which can be compared to Robert Plant of Led Zeppelin, who I'm sure Bernard has no problem being compaired to.

 BBC - h2g2 - Powderfinger - the Band
In early 1994 the band hit the studio to record what would become their debut album, Parables for Wooden Ears.
Released in August, Parables was not well received by the critics, gained practically no radio play, and completely failed to fulfil the potential Polydor had invested in.
At the time of its release, Parables for Wooden Ears was panned as being full of overly-complex arrangements from a band who had become too confident for their own good.

"Parables For Wooden Ears" has the influences of the times it was recorded in (early 1990s) with bands like Pearl Jam and Soundgarden prominent in the sound Powderfinger produce here.
It's not all awful, songs like "Save Your Skin" and "Sink Low" are well-written, mellow, mainly acoustic tracks that still sound good today nearly ten years later.
