 Neon Tetra Profile
In order to be bred, P. innesi should be kept in very soft water (dH 1.0-2.0) of a low pH (5.0-7.0).
They are reputedly weak fish (which may be deserved because they are susceptible to both ich and the insidious Neon Tetra Disease), but much of that has to do with forced acclimation to a large variety of water qualities.
This fish was the schooling fish as stated before, but an upstart (with a full-body-length red stripe) introduced in an upstart magazine's first issue knocked it from its throne.

 neon innesi

A very slender tetra with the eponymous neon blue stripe from the snout to the adipose fin, and bright red below it, beginning ahead of the ventral fin and ending in the tail; the belly is white.
The blue color of the stripe on these fish is caused by light reflecting pigments, and the apparent hue changes as the fish move in and out of the light.
As with many brightly colored characins, the colors of P. innesi are most intense when the fish is healthy and kept in soft, acid water.
