The Parachute Regiment formally established as a regiment in 1942.
Second Colours of The Parachute Regiment were presented by Her Majesty The Queen to the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd Battalions, and first Colours to the 4th(Volunteer) Battalion at Rushmoor Area, Aldershot on July 15th 1974.

It was not until the second Indo-Pakistani war in 1965 that India formed "an ad hoc commando (Cdo) detachment composed of volunteers from various infantry units." They performed their wartime duties so well that the government decided the following year to establish a permanent Cdo (Cdo) unit, the 9th Battalion (Bn) of the Parachute Regiment.
Despite the sparse funding provided to them, the SF of India and Pakistan will continue to fulfill their roles as the tips of the spears for their respective armies.

Early in 1945 the 44th Indian Airborne Division was formed to consist of two parachute brigades, one airlanding brigade (Glider borne) and supporting arms and was to head the expected invasion of Singapore later in that year.
This I found to be a very fine unit which proved to be the only parachute artillery regiment in the army, the others being mainly glider borne.
Within 10 to 14 days the bulk of the Regiment were sent on their parachute training course, but I was one of the drivers retained to transport the unit's guns and equipment etc. across India to our new training area called Bilaspur, a journey of about 8 days.
