Topic: Parade (album)

In the News (Mon 21 Dec 09)

  PRINCE IN PRINT
Like Purple Rain, the new album is a soundtrack (for the forthcoming Under the Cherry Moon) and is preceded by the stunning "Kiss." The single has been mistaken as a return to the music of his Dirty Mind period.
On Parade, all sounds -- snippets of guitar, horn, percussion, voice -- are treated equally, erasing the line between "basic track" and "sweetening." Prince has achieved the effect of a full groove using only the elements essential to a listener's understanding -- and so has devised a funk completed only by the listener's response.
Still, the bulk of "Parade" is listenable and enjoyable, a confirmation of Prince's place as a superior melodist, arranger and player as well as a celebration of his creativity.

 Jesusfreakhideout.com: Go Fish, "Parade" Review
Parade opens with an interesting yet misleading string arrangement before the bass-laden and funky pop sound of "Alright" enters in.
The highlight of the album is actually the untitled hidden track about a kid burning a lady bug with a magnifying glass.
Parade is a decent pop album but tends to fall a little short in lyrical depth or complex arrangements.

Parade (album) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Parade: Music from the Motion Picture "Under the Cherry Moon" was Prince's 1986 follow-up to Around the World in a Day and the soundtrack to his second film.
The album finishes with the sad ballad, "Sometimes It Snows in April" which has become a fan-favorite.
The album was for the most part a solo effort from Prince aside for the full band's input on "Mountains" (music credited to Wendy and Lisa); but with several contributions throughout the album.

Jesusfreakhideout.com: Audio Adrenaline, "Hit Parade: The Greatest Hits" Review
The album has little flaw in this collection, and the two new cuts fit in perfectly as new hits.
The one song that definitely was missing in its place was the title cut from their 1993 album, Don't Censor Me.
Aside from this minor setback, the album is strong, runs smoothly, and is a magnificent collection of AA favorites.

 Re:mote Induction: Mice Parade
Fortunately these labels are a little misleading and probably the result of an overactive imagination and the sense of freedom, (humour?), that comes with naming an instrumental.
The Lonely Lounge Piano Player's Lost In His Lonely World is entirely unique to this album, half breaking from its established dynamics, choosing to relax to the smooth and soothing sound of the late night pianist.
Overall however, Mice Parade are snaps of furious percussion, unstable drifting, the marvellous embrace of chimes and guitars of Spanish ability and Greek sorrow.

Amazon.com: Parade: Music from the Motion Picture "Under the Cherry Moon": Music: Prince & the Revolution   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-19)
Calling this one of Prince's most interesting albums doesn't do justice to how kicky and playable it is. The soundtrack from his failed romantic comedy Under the Cherry Moon, the disc often sounds like a preview of the supremely surefooted quirkiness of its follow-up, the classic Sign o' the Times.
Parade is his most diverse sounding CD, yet is the most cohesive of his eighties releases.
What differs this album from the previous one is perhaps that mzny more of the songs are slow paced here and less illusional, there are also less guitars used on this album and more songs that sound like traditional soul-funk, but very melancholy.

CLUAS Indie Album Reviews: Wolf Parade's album 'Apologies To The Queen Mary'
Wolf Parade have created an odd beast of a rock album with the help of Isaac Brock of Modest Mouse.
Apologies To The Queen Mary is the debut album by Wolf Parade and was released in the latter part of last year.
The rhythm section on this album is solid and never fails to make your feet tap as you listen to the simple drumbeats.

Lead singer Brandon Flowers has claimed this is the album that will keep rock and roll afloat, which is a pretty weighty ambition for what is essentially a pop album.
The album's dark theme - essentially death, death and more death - manages to never tread into the depressing, moody depths of Evanescence territory and instead has the kitsch skeletons-and-monsters vibe of a good Halloween party.
The title of the album was officially revealed at a concert played in London in August 2006.

But Wolf Parade may well be around without them, because they have enough weirdness and musical skill to stick in your mind after the album ends.
Melodically, Wolf Parade simply seem to bring more creativity to the table, with an intuitive ease that is so apparent it brings little else but joy to an undeserving, disconnected listener such as myself.
This album is worthy to be called one of the best of 2005 because of the harmonizing vocals, beautiful keyboard and guitar arrangements that mesh together so well and a spunky edge that comes out at you like a fairy tale.

Pete describes this album as the most intimate and personal he has ever done.
This is a very personal album -- in many ways the first Peter Wolf album -- but I don't think it would be doing either Peter of the music a disservice to suggest that through it all echoes the elusive spirit of Don Covay.
Fool's Parade offers up a vision that is very much of the here and now but that connects deeply, in ways that can be felt if not defined, with past and future, too.

Mice Parade's fifth album, Bem-Vinda Vontade, is leagues beyond its predecessors in accessibility, coherence, musicianship...
The subtle placements of complex rhythms that we've come to expect from Mice Parade are also in abundance, but the songwriting is a different affair than previous efforts, built more around the dueling nylon-string guitars of the new live setup, and delivered with a heartfelt pop warmth.
Many people do such things, always have, and Mice Parade has never meant to declare anything about such old-fashioned methods, but after the course of several albums, the same questions are often asked by writers and others so we just thought we'd clear it up.

'Black Parade' album dreams of death
Two albums of screamy pop-punk made them stars of the amorphous "emo" scene, but with "The Black Parade" (Reprise), Way and his mates render such labels pointless.
His metaphors, like his brassy vocals, are inked in bold colors; he hasn't yet found the inner tenderness to counter his fury.
The most disturbing words on "The Black Parade" come in the echoing "Sleep," when a tape-recorded voice (it's unclear if it's Way's) haltingly describes the physical feeling of death; the simple cry, "I can't wake up!" bears more weight than all of Way's images of vampires and runny blood.

Splendid Magazine: The album gathers strength with "Lie to Me", as a simple piano arpeggio over a synth background lends appropriate weight to the rich timbre of Autumn's voice, while acoustic guitar and Autumn's honeyed crooning combine for a strong cover of Neil Diamond's "Love on the Rocks".
