Parade (ballet) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Parade is a ballet with music by Erik Satie and a one-act scenario by Jean Cocteau.
The ballet was composed 1916-1917 for Serge Diaghilev's Ballets Russes.
The ballet premiered on May 18, 1917 at the Theatre du Chatelet in Paris, with costumes and sets designed by Pablo Picasso, a choreography by Léonide Massine (who was also dancing), and the orchestra conducted by Ernest Ansermet.

 SatieMart - ballet
The audience at the premiere of the ballet Parade was greeted by this discomforting sign, placed on the curtain by a mischievous Picasso.
It is true that we were brought closer to him by the scandal around Parade, the ballet by Jean Cocteau with settings and costumes by Pablo Picasso, composed in 1916, created by the Ballets Russes of Serge Diaghilev in 1917.
Although from the initial brass chords in Parade it is clear the playing is not very sophisticated and the recording rather shows its age, after a while this matters less and the curious charm of this ballet score - whether stiffly archaic, ruthlessly modern, or touchingly tender - is conveyed with a sure hand.

 CriticalDance.com - Joffrey Ballet Review
So deeply has the ballet imbibed synthetic cubism, the costumes seem to wear the dancer rather than the other way—human limbs become part of their curious construction.
A happy vestige of the horse ballets of the 17th century, the Horse MC trots forwards, backwards, sideways, and looks knowingly at the audience.
According to the ballet’s resolutely hard logic, the Chosen One is sacrificed to ensure the continuation of the community.

Ballet de l'Opera National de Bordeaux and Ballet Christina Hoyos
For "Parade," made in 1917 and reprised in recent years by the Joffrey Ballet and Joffrey Ballet of Chicago, the curtain shows a circus family taking their lunch on a stage in the country.
Not having seen this ballet since the Joffrey performed it in San Francisco in the early '90s, I was expecting an arm-rolling stereotype a la "The Nutcracker." There was something of this in the character's mincing steps and the coolie stoop of his shoulders, but Milan overcame it in his magician's hypnotic gaze.
This ballet, writes Walter Terry in his "Ballet Guide" (Popular Library, 1977), "is not only a ballet with a Spanish setting but one that also employs the techniques of Spanish dance (adapted and somewhat simplified) instead of classical ballet." The problem is that the dancers expected to carry this out are still ballet dancers.

Spandau Ballet had a respectable string of hits in their native Britain, but they were a one-and-a-half hit wonder in the U.S., where they scored the Top 10 smash "True" and the Top 30 hit "Gold." But if this 1983 album is anything to go by, the band deserved far greater success on these shores.
Spandau Ballet was one of the most successful New Romantic bands of the 1980s in large part because of this 1983 masterpiece, which includes their US and UK smash hit "True" as well as the popular "Gold." Also includes the third single, "Communication," which unfortunately failed to chart here in the States.
The album was followed by the excellent "Parade" LP, but Spandau Ballet's career was essentially over in the U.S. This remastered version is well worth the $$, though the extras fail to impress (a DVD of the videos for True, Gold and Communication would have been much nicer).
