Knowing the solar parallax and the mean Earth radius allows one to calculate the AU, the first, small step on the long road of establishing the size andmdash; and thus the minimum age andmdash; of the visible Universe.
The fact that stellar parallax was so small that it was unobservable at the time was used as the main scientific argument against heliocentrism during the early modern age.
Dynamic parallax has sometimes also been used to determine the distance to a supernova, when the optical wave front of the outburst was seen to propagate through the surrounding dust clouds at an apparent angular velocity, when we know its true propagation velocity to be that of the speed of light.

The first to follow is THE PARALLAX VIEW, craftily directed by Alan J. Pakula, starring and financially backed (in part) by Warren Beatty—who also had a heavy hand in MICKEY ONE, that classic of the paranoid thriller genre.
Especially important, he discovers that the whole thing is being run by the Parallax Corporation, an organization that hires certain psychological types (primarily anal-retentive in the extreme) as professional assassins, and then has them kill off select individuals in ways that make the victims’ deaths seem unplanned.
In THE PARALLAX VIEW, the audience is shown that anyone can be shot down at any moment, and this due to an anonymous, impersonal, fascistic Corporation whose offices exist somewhere up there in one of those tall skyscrapers that loom over the lone individual with such intimidation already.

Green Lantern: Rebirth #1 - #6 - PopMatters Comic Book Review
In the meantime, Jordan had become Parallax, a nearly omnipotent villain who tried to re-create the universe in the "Zero Hour" cross-over, only to be defeated, and who later redeemed himself, if only partially, by sacrificing himself to re-ignite the sun in the 1996 "Final Night" storyline.
Parallax is connected to the color yellow (symbolizing Fear) just as the color green (of the Green Lanterns) is associated with Will (the GL rings have traditionally had a weakness for the color yellow).
For decades, an increasingly large number of talented writers have fought to convince people that comics don't have to be formulaic retreads of the same stories or written at the level of emotionally stunted 12-year-olds.

His plan to destroy Earth A’s main timeline and replace it with that alternate was foiled by the Justice League, Timeshaper, The Spectre, and Mongul, who Parallax later killed.
At the end of the conflict, Parallax was finally killed by Jack Kent/Superman, Doc Holiday, The Spectre and Timeshaper.

After years of DC Comics standing by its decision to sully Jordan's legacy, Johns, a devout fan himself, was given the green light to "fix" things, and return the character of Hal Jordan to his perch as one of the most inspiring heroes in the DC canon.

Comic books that have been adapted for animated series have also proven to be popular among fans of all ages, and tend to be less violent than comic books or movies.

During the mid-1940s, the popularity of superhero comics began to decline, and the Spectre suffered as a result.
When the Silver Age of comic books arrived in the 1960s, the Spectre was re-written and returned to the role of an avenging undead spirit.
In both cases, in the final struggle against the main villain — the Anti-Monitor and Parallax respectively — the Spectre was the only hero capable of standing against the villains directly, allowing the other heroes time to put a plan into action that would destroy the villains once and for all.

I do not intend this to mean that the character concept lacks the potential for indefinite future stories; but comics, themselves, after the sixties, no longer kept to a reasonably human scale.
The most likely interpretation of this sequence suggests that Hal Jordan, as Parallax, came to visit the site of Oliver Queen's grave (Parallax' role as a time-traveler means that sequential constraints do not affect his actions in a logical, predictable way).

Doomsday (comics) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Doomsday is the name of a fictional character in the DC Comics Universe, a supervillain best known for fighting and killing Superman in the Death of Superman storyline in 1993.
Simultaneously, Doomsday developed a strong desire to murder Superman in particular; this was later explained by Doomsday sensing that Superman was Kryptonian, and, due to the agony of his continuous deaths during his creation, Doomsday regarded anything Kryptonian as an automatic threat.
As in the comics, this version of Doomsday seems to have a biology that adapts to any opponent given time, so any attack used to defeat him works only once: when he re-appeared after his laser-lobotomy, he had grown a heavy bone plate in his skull, making it impossible to lobotomize him again.
