Parallel parking - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Cars parked in parallel are in one line, parallel to the curb, with the front bumper of each car facing the back bumper of an adjacent one.
Since parallel parking is parallel to the curb of a road, roads that facilitate said parking have an extra lane or a large shoulder for parked cars.
Ensure that your desired parking space is about 2 meters (~~6 feet) longer than your vehicle (although some highly skilled drivers are capable of parking in spaces that are within 0.3 m (one foot) of their vehicle length.

Before I decided which method of parking is best for AlgebraVille, I had to look at all possible methods: angle on both sides parallel on both sides, perpendicular on both sides and finally parallel on one side and perpendicular on the other.
At first I thought that angle parking will be the best, since this is the way a lot of street has it, but then I figured out that by having angel parking in our specific situation I will be wasting a lot of parking space.
If we have parallel parking for both sides of the street we will be wasting 10 feet of the width of the street.

This is one step better than the parking aids currently available, which merely measure the distance to an obstacle and warn the driver if collision is imminent.
These measurements give the Parking Assistant a system of 16 non-linear equations involving the known coordinates of the sensors and the unknown coordinates of the target.
Already the Parking Assistant will take control of a car to stop it if an imminent collision is detected, perhaps because a pedestrian steps in the way or the driver misjudges the angle of approach.
