The sysctl Interface | Linux Journal
The system call exports the ability to fine-tune kernel parameters and is tightly bound to the /proc file system, a simpler, file-based interface that can be used to perform the same tasks available by means of the system call.
Linux developers diverged from this approach and chose to implement variable parameters in place of hardwired constants; run-time configuration can be performed by using the sysctl system call or more easily by exploiting the /proc file system.
Although low-level, the tunable parameters of the kernel are very interesting to tweak and can help optimize system performance for the different environments where Linux is used.

If the −J option is not specified, the default journal parameters will be used to create an appropriately sized journal (given the size of the filesystem) stored within the filesystem.
Journal options are comma separated, and may take an argument using the equals (’=’) sign.
The size of the journal must be at least 1024 filesystem blocks (i.e., 1MB if using 1k blocks, 4MB if using 4k blocks, etc.) and may be no more than 102,400 filesystem blocks.

Linux Command Line Parameters | Linux Journal
This is the code that does most of the option parsing, saving information on a number of kernel-specific parameters in global variables so that they can be used by the kernel when needed.
Any other parameters given as "name=value" pairs are passed as arguments and environment variables to the next process.
The first two parameters are the base I/O address for the controller and the interrupt request.

In this default case, the H bit MUST be set to 0 for all channel journal headers for the channel in the recovery journal, for all packets in the stream.
Recovery Journal Definitions This appendix defines the terminology and the coding idioms that are used in the recovery journal bitfield descriptions in Section 5 (journal header structure), Appendices A.2 to A.9 (channel journal chapters) and Appendices B.1 to B.5 (system journal chapters).
We assume that the recovery journal resides in the journal section of an RTP packet with sequence number I ("packet I") and that the Checkpoint Packet Seqnum field in the top-level recovery journal header refers to a previous packet with sequence number C (an exception is the self-referential C = I case).

While the ext3 journal is visible, it is not safe to delete it, or modify it while the filesystem is mounted; for this reason the file is marked immutable.
When the filesystem is mounted with journalling enabled, all data is forced directly out to the main file system prior to its metadata being committed to the journal.
When the filesystem is mounted with journalling enabled, data may be written into the main filesystem after its metadata has been committed to the journal.

 Plugin Tool - LOCKSS
The plugin for a complex journal is written mostly in Java, but for most simple journals the plugin is an XML file which is interpreted by a generic, or definable, plugin written by the LOCKSS team.
We use examples of some real journals to show how you find this information from the journal's web site, how you feed it into the tool to generate a suitable plugin, and how you test the plugin to be sure you have the information correct.
If the journal uses parameters in the URL and they do not include the volume or year, write rules that include the files that are actually needed.

For each journal entry, parameters may follow the name, so long as they are enclosed in parenthesis.
The parameters may include the word 'forward' if you would like emails to be forwarded to the private mail boxes whose names are maintained in resources/emaillists.txt.
The Parameters should include the word 'keepall' if posts to the journal are saved in the journal archives instead of automatically deleted after forwarding.

 CHARMM Empirical Force Fields
These files are in the stream subdirectory and are used by first reading the parent topology and parameter files and then streaming the appropriate toppar stream file to add the additional residues, patches and parameters of interest.
This change was motivated by the ever increasing complexity of the topology and parameter files due to the inclusion of additional model compounds.
An overview of the parameter optimization approaches to extend the CHARMM force fields may be found in the following references or in MacKerell, A.D., Jr.

Troubleshooting journal_wrap errors on Sysvol and DFS replica sets
The USN journal is a log of fixed size that records all changes that take place on NTFS 5.0-formatted partitions.
Journal wrap errors occur if a sufficient number of changes take place while FRS is turned off such that the last USN change that FRS recorded during shutdown no longer exists in the USN journal during startup.
Divide the journal size by the size per change to determine the approximate number of changes that can occur before the journal wrap error is encountered.

The experimental implementation of our algorithm to estimate the dynamics parameters of the six degrees-of-freedom CMU DD Arm 11 is also presented.

While any information regarding a set of parameters (bond, angle, torsion, out-of-plane,charges,van der Waals, etc) would be welcome, we are interested in generating the neccesary parameters, and in a form suitable for use in CHARMM.
Please note, however, that this is only an approximate procedure since it ignors the interactions between parameters of different types and it is not the method used in standard parameterisations.
van der Waals parameters could be obtained by analogy (for example using the normal carbonyl O parameters for the nitro O).

Malaria Journal | Full text | Dynamics of immune response and drug resistance in malaria infection
The functional relations in the model are applicable to a wide range of conditions and transmission environments, allowing predictions to be made on both the individual and the community levels, and, in particular, transitions from drug-sensitive to drug-resistant parasite dominance to be projected on both levels.
Next, the dynamics of this baseline model are examined by numerically computing solutions of rescaled system (3) with and without inoculation sources, using the parameter values described in Table 1.
The analysis of treatment for mixed phenotypes starts with a single drug dose applied at the peak parasitaemia, close to the pyrogenic threshold, and considers two phenotypes with the parameters of Figure 4(a), where y dominates and, in the absence of inoculation, drives x to extinction.

Throughout this series, we have made it clear that wherever polymorphism is intended, this formally requires the use of a type parameter, to stand for the group of types over which the function is defined [3].
Technically, we are substituting parameters bounded by one set of constraints with new parameters bounded by a different set of constraints.
This follows a pattern which gradually increases the constraints on all type parameters monotonically, restricting the types which may eventually be valid members of the subclass.

AAAAI - Professionals Center: Resources: Practice Parameters
The Practice Parameters are designed to assist clinicians in providing high quality assessment and treatment that is consistent with the best available scientific evidence and clinical consensus.
The Practice Parameters describe generally accepted practices, but are not intended to define a standard of care, nor should they be deemed inclusive of all proper methods of care or exclusive of other legitimate methods of care directed at obtaining the desired results.
The ultimate judgment regarding the care of a patient and family must be made by the clinician in light of all of the clinical evidence presented by the patient and family, the diagnostic and treatment options available, and available resources.

If called as mkfs.ext3 a journal is created as if the -j option was specified.
If the -J option is not specified, the default journal parameters will be used to create an appropriately sized journal (given the size of the filesystem) stored within the filesystem.
As a result, the -c option to mke2fs is a much simpler and less error-prone method of checking a disk for bad blocks before formatting it, as mke2fs will automatically pass the correct parameters to the badblocks program.
