Paranoid (album) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Paranoid is the breakthrough second album by British heavy metal band Black Sabbath, released in 1970; it soon topped the British music charts.
The album was originally titled "War Pig" but the record company changed it to "Paranoid" because of sensitivity about the Vietnam War.
Paranoid peaked at #12 on Billboard's Pop Albums chart (North America), and #1 in the UK album charts.

Paranoid was not only Black Sabbath's most popular record (it was a number one smash in the U.K., and "Paranoid" and "Iron Man" both scraped the U.S. charts despite virtually nonexistent radio play), it also stands as one of the greatest and most influential heavy metal albums of all time.
Paranoid refined Black Sabbath's signature sound -- crushingly loud, minor-key dirges loosely based on heavy blues-rock -- and applied it to a newly consistent set of songs with utterly memorable riffs, most of which now rank as all-time metal classics.
Even the qualities that made critics deplore the album (and the group) for years increase the overall effect -- the technical simplicity of Ozzy Osbourne's vocals and Tony Iommi's lead guitar vocabulary; the spots when the lyrics sink into melodrama or awkwardness; the lack of subtlety and the infrequent dynamic contrast.

Paranoid was released in 1970, and was the follow-up album to the band's self-titled debut album.
As the album liner notes, "Paranoid introduced themes that would recur throughout Black Sabbath's career--doom, destruction, and realms beyond the grave." Indeed, the music offered up in Paranoid is dark--in keeping with the name of the band.
This album probably provided the blueprint for a lot of the metal acts that were to follow.

The album was taken from a Sabbath concert in 1975 with the original band members.
the original album was called War Pigs and had a picyure of Ronald Reagan and Henry Kissenger on it but the record company said that was unexeptable and without the bands permission put on a random picture of a blurred soldier coming out of a forest (which has nothing to do with the album).
The album cover (a blurry image of a spage age warrior) was desined to go withy the original name of the album "War Pigs".

And "Paranoid," an album which featured five very famous songs, was pretty much as heavy as heavy music got in the 1970's, and was also the beginning of a type of metal known as "doom metal." Doom metal is slow and melancholy and has dark and sludgy riffs.
Of all the songs on the album, this is the one which is most likely to get annoying--not a weak track per se, but weaker than others on the album.
Sabbath's self-titled and *Paranoid* are the albums that people generally think created heavy metal but they are so wrong, and need to pull their heads out of the sand.

Similarly oddly, this album closes with ‘Fairies Wear Boots’, which refers explicitly to the group’s drug use, while the first track on their next album – Master Of Reality –; is ‘Sweet Leaf’, a paean to the joys of the weed.

"Paranoid Android" is a song by Radiohead, from their third album, OK Computer.
The flamboyantly epic, through-composed structure of "Paranoid Android," though unique among Radiohead material, was also responsible for most of the comparisons with 1970s progressive rock that the band subsequently earned, to their annoyance.

This is also their most influential album as Paranoid encouraged literally thousands of teenagers to pick up a guitar and later form heavy metal bands.
Further illustrating the mood and diversity of the album is that the vocals are often distorted and dominated in the mix by the music, especially on the second half of the album.

There are some up-tempo rockers, the famous title track for one, but for the most part PARANOID oozes along like a bad dream, as on the slinky, creepy opener, "War Pigs," or the lumbering thud of "Iron Man" (which boasts one of the most indelible electric guitar riffs in rock history).
By the time this album came out in late 1970 (in Britain anyway- it was released over here in early 1971), the band was a surprise success story.
