  Paranoid - Black Sabbath
Tony Iommi's guitar riff at the beginning of Black Sabbath's song Paranoid is one of the most famous riffs of all time.
Even though its only played four times and not repeated during the rest of the song, its simple melody is easy to remember and starts the song with a suitable driving rhythm.
From the minute the riff begins it captures your attention and the overall dynamics are increased with the introduction of the drums and bass.

Black Sabbath : Paranoid - Listen, Review and Buy at ARTISTdirect
Paranoid was not only Black Sabbath's most popular record (it was a number one smash in the U.K., and "Paranoid" and "Iron Man" both scraped the U.S. charts despite virtually nonexistent radio play), it also stands as one of the greatest and most influential heavy metal albums of all time.
Paranoid refined Black Sabbath's signature sound -- crushingly loud, minor-key dirges loosely based on heavy blues-rock -- and applied it to a newly consistent set of songs with utterly memorable riffs, most of which now rank as all-time metal classics.
Where the extended, multi-sectioned songs on the debut sometimes felt like aimless jams, their counterparts on Paranoid have been given focus and direction, lending an epic drama to now-standards like "War Pigs" and "Iron Man" (which sports one of the most immediately identifiable riffs in metal history).

This is an anti-war song and with lyrics such as "politicians hide themselves away/they only started the war/why should they go out to fight/they leave their role to the poor", it does ring true for many that are listening to the song.
The song was probably one of the first songs to ever use palm muting on the guitar to such great effect.
Because the song is done in a minor key, the wah-wah sound from the guitar immediately creates a rather discomforting feel to the song, which is further made more uncomfortable by the bass, which does not use any effects.

Paranoid Android is a patchwork song, according to Radiohead, so i think it's safe to say that it isn't unified by one concept.
This song seems to be about the rise and fall of an okay person turned vengeful, ultimately seeking salvation from the mess he has put himself in, only to find that there is no way out anymore.
The main character, like in the song, silently becomes more and more insane ("voices in my head.....what's that?") and then he bursts into a fit of violent rage ("off with his head"), and is finally taken away to the hospital for the mentally dangerous ("that's it sir, you're leaving....the dust and the screaming").

And "Paranoid," an album which featured five very famous songs, was pretty much as heavy as heavy music got in the 1970's, and was also the beginning of a type of metal known as "doom metal." Doom metal is slow and melancholy and has dark and sludgy riffs.
Paranoid's virtually undisputed claim to fame is the heralding of the dawn of metal.
Paranoid has so many truly great Sabbath classics that even the lesser tunes here are overshadowed by their greatness, erasing the few spots of mediocrity.

While songs like "Hand of Doom" are a little based on something you'd write with a joint in your hand, songs like "Paranoid" tell a great story of a downward spiral of what is someones unfortunate life.
The lyrics in the album "Paranoid" may not be as epic as Rush's "2112," "Cygnus X-1" or "The Trees" (which I believe are the best lyrics ever written by a rock 'n' roll group) they still stand as a great acheivement in metal's history.

I can't remember what song it was, but there was a Sanyo blimp in the sky, and Thom pointed his hand and "shot at it." For Pyramid Song, Thom turned around and pointed at the moon, to which he later dedicated it to.
Radiohead seemed like they were playing another song completely as they pushed the tempo, and distorted the bass line with this dirty sound and Thom grabbed his tambourine and swayed with the music singing "I'm a reasonable man, get off my case".
