It is also interesting that most first impulses, after copying the flapping of bird wings, focused on the helicopter, eventually drifting to the airplane as a problem more easily solved.
Floats were mounted under the lowest parts of the wing, with twin tail-booms attached to the rear of the floats.

 Skylab
However, its use would have required jettisoning the parasol deployed by crew members of Skylab 2, with the possibility of creating the same thermal problems that existed on the OWS prior to the parasol deployment.
An unexpected telemetry indication of meteoroid shield deployment and solar array wing 2 beam fairing separation was received 1 minute and 3 seconds after liftoff.
The review board determined that a 'Skylab parasol,' with a strengthened ultraviolet resistant material, deployed through the scientific airlock would be the prime method for the deployment of a thermal shield on the Orbital Workshop.

 Lockheed Vega
It had a streamlined, smoothly rounded monocoque fuselage that was made of molded plywood in two halves and glued together to produce an extremely smooth surface.
It had no external struts or wires to break its smooth look and was what Northrop called "clean." The plane had cantilever (internally braced) wings set above the fuselage, a feature that had been introduced by the Dutch aeronautical pioneer Anthony Fokker in the early 1920s, and a similarly constructed tail assembly.
During its production lifetime, more than 128 Vegas were built, including the Model 4 Air Express which had a parasol wing and open cockpit behind the passenger cabin.
