Pardalotidae - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The large and diverse passerine bird family Pardalotidae includes the pardalotes, scrubwrens, thornbills, gerygones and allies.
The taxonomy of the Pardalotidae is complex and its classification has changed a great deal over the years.
Recent microbiological work has made it clear that it is part of the Australasian corvid lineage, and it is most closely related to the honeyeaters and the fairy-wrens, all three families being regarded as part of the superfamily Meliphagoidea.

Auk, The: Life in the slow lane: Reproductive life history of the White-browed Scrubwren, an Australian endemic
We documented the breeding biology of the White-browed Scrubwren (Sericornis frontalis), an Australia endemic in the Pardalotidae (parvorder Corvida).
Like other members of the Pardalotidae, scrubwrens had a long laying interval (two days), a long incubation period (declining from 21 to 17 days through the season), and a long period of postfledging parental care (6 to 7 weeks).
Although the 49 species in the Pardalotidae that are resident in Australia appear to epitomize the syndrome of slow reproduction, only a few species have been studied (e.g.

Pardalotidae - 斑食蜜鸟科 - ホウセキドリ科 - Họ Chích bụng vàng
Sibley and Monroe combine the Acanthizidae (thornbills and flyeaters) and the Pardalotidae (pardalotes) into one family, the Pardalotidae.
The Pardalotidae are known as 斑食蜜鸟 bān shí-mì-niǎo ('striped/spotted honey-eating-bird') or 斑啄果鸟科 bān zhuó-mì-niǎo ('striped fruit-pecking bird') in Chinese and the ホウセキドリ hōseki-dori ('jewel bird'), written 宝石鳥, in Japanese.
The distribution of the Pardalotidae in East Asia can be found at Tzung-Su Ding's Distribution of Pardalotidae in East Asia.

 Pardalote family
Pardalotes were once placed with flowerpeckers in the Dicaeidae, but Sibley and Ahlquist (1990) and Sibley (1996) showed that this small group of birds is one of the great corvid assemblage that arose in Australasia.
Biochemical analysis shows that they are most closely related to scrubwrens, thornbills, bristlebirds and allies; indeed, Sibley and Ahlquist (1990) and Sibley (1996), followed by Simpson and Day (1996), place all these groups together under a much broadened Pardalotidae.
The more conservative approach (which I follow here, and which is the apparent approach of the Handbook of the Birds of the World series) is to place the pardalotes in their own family and group together the scrubwrens, thornbills, etc., in their own family, the Acanthizidae [Australo-Papuan Warblers].

 Bristlebirds
Most recent lists (e.g., Sibley and Ahlquist 1990, Sibley and Monroe 1990, Christidis and Boles 1994) placed the three bristlebirds within a broad Pardalotidae that also included the Australasian warblers [Acanthizinae].
Schodde and Mason (1999) explained why the Pardalotidae should be a family, separate from the Acanthizidae (contra Sibley and Monroe 1990).
Joel Cracraft, author of the family lists in Dickinson (2003), agreed with this separation and further elevated the bristlebirds [Dasyornithidae] to family status.
