The new territorial organization was implemented in phases with some initial "pilot regions" beginning to operate in 1974, and then from January 1 1976 the process was extended to the rest of the country.
If this bill is approved, it may open the way for other regions to be created, such as in the provinces of Ñuble, Aconcagua, and in provinces in the south of the Maule Region.
