A second Norwegian settlement in Wisconsin was founded in 1839 at Lake Muskego in Waukesha County by sixty immigrants from Telemarken and Stavanger.
In a Wisconsin settlement that escaped epidemics 194 deaths are recorded in the church books from 1855, when the first death took place, to 1865; and of these, as shown in the following table, no less than 94 were deaths of children under five years.
Head of Albion, Wisconsin, near the Koshkonong settlement, entered the College of Physicians and Surgeons in New York in 1844, but settled on a claim in Wisconsin the following year and had to practice as physician until 1847, when he was able to return to the medical school to complete his course.

However, more closely associated with Fourier, was a group of enthusiasts in what now is Kenosha County Wisconsin who were inspired by the writings of of the journalist, Horace Greeley, writing in the New York Tribune.
Greeley's crusading spirit found a following in the area now Kenosha County, where a group of enthusiasts organized a plan for the harmonious living that Fourier envisioned, under the direction of Warren Chase, who established such a Fourier-styled commune in the Ceresco Valley, in 1844 which subsequently became Ripon, Wisconsin in Fond du Lac County.
Wisconsin's first state legislature convened in 1848, and Warren Chase was the senator representing the Fond du Lac area in the state senate at that time.

I hadn't been back in the Kenosha area very long when I began to hear stories of giant mammoth- or mastodon-type bones that were discovered in Kenosha County many years ago.
I said that I intended to go over to the Kenosha County Historical Society, where the old newspapers were kept on microfilm, and see if I could find the stories that were printed when they were discovered.
After having copies made of the articles, I was walking out of the room when the young woman stopped me. She said they had been doing an inventory and, while cataloguing things in the basement, had found a wooden box full of some very large, old bones.
