The Parliament of Ghana is unicameral and dominated by two main parties, the New Patriotic Party and National Democratic Congress.
Ghana is located on the Gulf of Guinea, only a few degrees north of the Equator.
Ghana has 12,130 primary schools, 5,450 junior secondary schools, 503 senior secondary schools, 21 training colleges, 18 technical institutions, two diploma-awarding institutions and five universities serving a population of 17 million; this means that most Ghanaians have relatively easy access to good education.

It was an eyesaw in parliament yesterday when most members of the majority side of the house opposed a motion which was moved by the majority leader, Felix O. Agyapong, on the composition of the membership of the ECOWAS parliament from Ghana.
He explained that if the majority side of the house left out the name of the member, they would not have been fair to him because as at the moment, the member is in Niger, attending a bureau meeting for the country.
He noted that the ECOWAS parliament has its own protocol which states that a member forfeits its membership when he or she loses his seat in his home country.

Peter Ala Adjetey, the Speaker of Parliament, said last month that he would secure the passage of a bill that would provide antidiscrimination protections and ensure access for people with disabilities from discrimination.
Disabled Ghanaians feel the need for such a law because, despite the provisions of the 1992 Republican Constitution (which guarantees their rights), they continue to face significant barriers to social and economic equality.
