Namibia, officially the Republic of Namibia, is a country in southern Africa on the Atlantic coast.
Namibia's bicameral parliament consists of the National Council with twenty six seats, occupied by two members chosen from each regional council to serve six-year terms; and the National Assembly of seventy eight seats, of which seventy two members are elected by popular vote, and six non-voting members are appointed by the president.
Namibia became the 160th member of the United Nations on April 23, 1990, and the 50th member of the Commonwealth of Nations upon independence.

Governments and parliaments should assist in the reconstruction and development of necessary infrastructure, the resolution said, and stressed the importance of inter-ethnic reconciliation, and the protection of women and children against crimes such as rape.

PARLIAMENT - Government carried out a study between 1989 and 1992 to formulate a plan for the waters of the Okavango system, Charles Tibone, the minister of minerals, energy and water resources, told Parliament on Thursday.
He reminded Parliament that Namibia had at the height of the drought proposed a water transfer scheme to supply Windhoek and other towns outside the Okavango Basin in 1997.
Tibone also told Parliament that the Okavango River System is a highly sensitive environmental ecosystem, hence its protection under the Ramsar Convention as a natural wetland.
