Parodius is a cool Konami shoot'n'up game, a parody of Gradius/Nemesis, released only in Japan, and, for this reason, totally in japanese.
Parodius Stage 3 boss is a direct depictation of teruterubozu, who is practically a god of good weather.
Parodius manual also calls this machine "biggu baipaa" not "bikku baipaa", so I assume "Big Viper", as in current translation is proper, not "Vic Viper".

This game is one of the few Parodius titles to be released in Europe, but like all other games in the series, it was not released in North America.

Well Parodius is a parody of Gradius - hence the name - and I reckon I enjoy the Parodius series of games more bacause I have played a lot of Gradius in the past.
The last boss in Gradius is a giant brian that doesn't do much and is a walkover - in Parodius you have a giant red octopus as a final boss which is a wimp as well...just a few shots with a standard weapon is enough to despatch him.
Parodius was only the first of a series...I worry about the staff at Konami who thought this stuff up.

Parodius n'est pas juste une équation "parodie" plus "gradius", il subit d'autres influences, celles de jeux Konami obscurs en occident mais aussi d'au moins un jeu connu, Pop'N Twinbee.
Comme quoi Parodius c'est beaucoup de Gradius, puisqu'il en reprend l'essentiel de l'interface (barre d'armement, scrolling...), mais aussi, contrairement à ce que l'on pourrait penser, pas mal de Pop'N Twinbee.
Parodius est un bon compromis entre l'action soutenue de Gradius et les paysages pastels de Pop'N Twinbee, avec en prime une touche de folie personnelle.

Parodius is chocked full of humorous characters and events, most of all which have been in previous Konami games (so I've heard).
Parodius is available for just about every system there is. I think even the Atari 2600 has a version of Parodius...
I have to admit that when I first played Parodius, I didn't want to play it, because it was too far off the norm-I was so used to space themes that this was just too weird.

 DAM: Parodius Deluxe Pack Review

Parodius was named thus because it is a PAROdy of GraDIUS.
I was going to do a really extensive review and showcase with tons of screenshots and features and maybe using Joshua's midi-files as background music on a illustrated step by step journey through the games - but unfortunately it looks like I probably won't ever get time..

The MSX Parodius came before the first arcade game, so it wasn't based on anything, just a parody of the Gradius games.
THe first parodius is for the MSX which was based off an arcade game.
I'm pretty sure this parodius wasn't released on the SNES because the two i have for the super famicom and can find info on are completly different parodius games in the series.

With the release of Parodius Portable in Japan, Konami has taken five of the best the Parodius series has to offer and placed them all together in one nice and tidy Sony PSP package.
Everything about Gokujou Parodius is just bigger, better, and faster than any of the previous games and is widely considered to be the best Parodius game of them all, although I'd disagree with that just a little.
If it sounds weird, that's because it is. The music is some of the best the Parodius series has ever contained and despite this constant barrage of yelling, it really seems to work well together to form the experience that's given the game the nickname "Chatting" Parodius.

The enemies are superbly animated, and there are a load of regular faces with large Twinbee pisstakes, Goemon and Ebisumaru make a cameo appearance, complete with a friend from the first Mystical Ninja game.
Soundwise, the sound effects and music are fantastic, with loads of booms and bleeps eminating from the speakers.
The music is typical of Parodius, with remakes of disco and classical music, and loads of hilarious tracks appearing here and there.
