Parramatta Leagues Group yesterday decided to cut its losses when its five-year commitment to the Power expires at the end of next season.
Parramatta Leagues Group, which incorporates the licensed leagues club, the rugby league football club and the soccer club, joins AFL clubs Carlton and Collingwood in the failed experiment of trying to run an NSL operation.
Although the Power has failed to capture the imagination of the burgeoning soccer market in western Sydney - there are almost 40,000 registered players in its catchment area - it is one of the few existing clubs positioned to reach the benchmarks of a genuinely reformed league.

Based in Parramatta, a district in the city of Sydney, the Eels in 1947 were admitted to the New South Wales Rugby League (NSWRL) competition, predecessor of the Australian Rugby League (ARL) and the current NRL competition.
