Coahuila is bordered on the north by the US state of Texas; on the east by the Mexican state of Nuevo León; on the south by the Mexican states of Zacatecas, Durango, and San Luis Potosí; and on the west by the Mexican state of Chihuahua.
Coahuila had a total population of 2,298,070 in 2000; of the total, 1,140,195 were men and 1,157,875 were women.
Madero was born in Parras, Coahuila, on October 30, 1873, and was president from 1911 to 1913.

Perhaps the most significant thing about our visit to Parras was the fact that for the first time we talked to someone who had first-hand knowledge of the vast Copper Canyon area that we hoped to visit (and did later in the year).
Parras was a pretty little town.Its streets were narrow, paved, and almost all one way and lined with simple one or two story buildings, some of them colonial style with pleasant courtyards hidden behind high walls.
The name of the town, Parras, means grapes, and the full name, Parras de la Fuente (Grapes of the Spring) refers to the fact that grapes can be grown here because of the existence of fresh-water springs.
