Parrot - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Parrots or Psittacines (order Psittaciformes) includes about 353 species of bird which are generally grouped into two families: the Cacatuidae or cockatoos, and the Psittacidae or true parrots.
All members of the order have a characteristic curved beak shape with the upper mandible having slight mobility in the joint with the skull and a generally erect stance.
Parrots are kept as pets, particularly conures, macaws, Amazons, cockatoos, African Greys, lovebirds, Cockatiels, Budgerigars and parakeets, because of their rich and varied colouration.

! Parrots and Cockatoos ! Tropical Rainforest, North Queensland, Australia
The Parrot order is thus an ancient lineage, and appears not to be closely related to any other groups of birds (Simpson et al 1996); however, it is thought that they have a distant relationship to the pigeons and doves.
Parrots can be long lived, and in fact the oldest bird ever recorded was a 'Sulfur-crested Cockatoo' that died in the London Zoo in 1982 at the age of at least 80 years old (Slater 1997).
Parrots in the Australian region are very diverse, and it is only here where all three major groups of parrots (the `lorikeets', the `cockatoos' and the `true parrots') are found.

Parrots in the wild spend much of their time tearing apart plant life, and this is an instinctive behavior.
While baby parrots, that are just fledging, do not as a rule have the muscle development that allows them to injure or kills themselves when running into windows, a fully flighted parrot in good shape can certainly kill himself flying into such a partition, just as wild birds do when flying into windows.
Either the parrot must be transported in a carrier, or trained to allow the owner to keep a thumb firmly pressed down on the bird’s foot and a hand on the bird’s back when covering short distances outdoors.

 Parrot FAQ -
Parrot is in the early phases of its implementation.
Parrot has an odd license -- it currently uses the same license as Perl 5, which is the disjunction of the GNU GPL and the Artistic License, which can be written (ArtisticGPL) for short.
Any library used by Parrot must be fast enough to have a fairly small performance impact, small enough to have little impact on core size, and flexible enough to handle the varying demands of Perl, Python, Tcl, Ruby, Scheme, and whatever else some clever or twisted hacker throws at Parrot.

The Paradise Parrot (''Psephotus pulcherrimus'') was an unusually colourful medium-sized parrot native to the grassy woodlands of the Queensland - New South Wales border area of Australia.
Paradise Parrots lived in pairs or small family groups, making their nests in hollowed-out termite mounds and similar places, often at or near ground level, and feeding, so far as is known, almost exclusively on grass seeds.
The plumage was extraordinarily colorful, even by parrot standards, a mixture of turquoise, aqua, scarlet, fl and brown, and the tail almost the same length as the body—something difficult to understand in a bird that, although a rapid, undulating flyer, spent almost all of its time on the ground.

 PARROT Case
Smuggling of parrots across the Texas border, however, is very difficult to enforce due to the lucrative profits awaiting the smugglers.
Parrots that cost $15 apiece in Mexico garner $250 to $1,500 in the United States and some are sold as high as $10,000 at flea markets and pet stores.
The problem, however, is that while many threatened breeds of parrots such as the scarlet macaws and the Amazon parrots such as the double yellow heads, yellow heads, Mexican redheads, and yellow nape can thrive in the wilds of Mexico, they are hard to breed in captivity.

Feathers, Flight and Parrot Keeping by Pamela Clark
Since these wild-caught parrots were plentiful and inexpensive for many years, it has only been perhaps in the last 20 years or so that hand-fed parrots have begun to be produced in any real numbers.
A good example of this is the theory of "height dominance," which states that allowing a parrot to perch up higher than the owner's eye level or on the owner's shoulder will result in a parrot who believes itself to be the dominant member of the relationship, resulting in non-compliance.

Parrots are lost not just to "fly-aways", but to changing life circumstances in their human flock.
While many more households now include pet parrots, a certain percentage of new owners find that these intelligent, complex animals are not a best fit in their family flocks.
Unlike dogs and cats, with their thousands of years of domestication, most pet parrots are no more than one or two - or at the most - three generations from the wild.
