Partial trace - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
In linear algebra and functional analysis, the partial trace is a generalization of the trace.
The partial trace has applications in quantum information and decoherence which is relevant for quantum measurement and thereby to the decoherent approaches to interpretations of quantum mechanics, including consistent histories and the relative state interpretation..
Thus the partial trace is the quantum mechanical equivalent of this operation.

An execution trace is modeled as a partial order which enables succinct representation of exponential number of possible total order execution traces.
Given an execution trace and a predicate (specification) in RCTL+, first the computation slice with respect to the predicate is computed, then if the initial state of the execution trace is contained in the computation slice, the predicate is satisfied.
The instrumented program is such that it outputs the values of variables relevant to the predicate in question and keeps a vector clock that is updated for each internal, send and receive event according to the Fidge/Mattern algorithm.

Trace (linear algebra) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The use of the term trace arises from the German term Spur (cognate with the English spoor), which, as a function in mathematics, is often abbreviated to "Sp".
The concept of trace of a matrix is generalised to the trace class of compact operators on Hilbert spaces.
Partial trace is another generalization of the trace that is operator-valued.

How to Troubleshoot Linux Kernel Panics   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-13)
It is often crucial to have a full stack trace, something that may not be available if only a screen dump is provided — the top of the stack may scroll off the screen, leaving only a partial stack trace.
If only a partial stack trace is available, it can be tricky to isolate the root cause, since there is no explicit information about what module of function call caused the panic.
If only a partial trace is available and the supporting information is not sufficient to isolate root cause, it may be useful to use KDB.

A while back I've been playing with partial evaluation using Flash.
partial gets assigned the function that follows from the partial evaluation of foo (in this case, it will return a function taking 2 arguments since foo is evaluated using one argument - so 3 - 1 nets 2.
Finally partial is invoked returning the full result "Hello World" just like the result would have been when directly invoking foo with 3 arguments.

Partial safety reduction both eliminates the tau-transitions and cuts the redundant transitions (as defined in [Mou92]) of spec.
Partial strong reduction replaces duplicate transitions (i.e., transitions with same source state, target state, and label) by a single transition.
Partial tau-compression reduction is usually fast (linear in the size of the Labelled Transition System).

The method to obtain the curvatures of the dendrites along their length involves first obtaining the digital pictures, and then to trace (with the computer mouse) the dendrites in the picture.
As an illustration of the method, the picture shows a partial tracing of the dendrites that are to the left of the plaque.
Quantities such as the current length traversed by that particular trace, the x-y locations of the mouse, the local curvature, and the radius of gyration are interactively updated as the trace is performed.

Premonoidal categories and a graphical view of programs
Traces were initially proposed as a categorical model of cycles in knots, and this graphical presentation is just a simplified version of the knot diagrams presented by Joyal, Street and Verity.
Instead, we use a weaker notion of partial traceability, where we impose the restriction that feedback edges are traceable.
The axiomatization used for partially traced cartesian categories is more powerful that that of Joyal, Street and Verity's axiomatization for traced monoidal categories.

Chapter 7 Continued: Analyzing Stack Traces
There are three popular ways to generate a stack trace: sending a signal to the Java VM; the Java VM generates a stack trace for you; or using debugging tools or API calls.
Obviously, if you generated the stack trace yourself this should not be much of an issue, but you may see a stack trace posted on a newsgroup or in an email article.
The stack trace you have here is slightly different to the stack trace that appears in the bug report, but caused by the same effect.

These are operations for which measurements are applied and the outcome gets partially (or completely) known to the target system.
If a measurement occurs and the outcome remains unknown outside the environement then the operation remains trace preserving (this is what happen when the environement applies a CNOT as described at equation (8.7)).
