PPB   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-11-02)
We understand that it is impossible to have a representative from every political party, but we would urge the BLG to expand the group in order to have a fair and just representation on behalf of all the smaller parties, not just the big 5 in the United Kingdom.
This is because we have fewer candidates than the other parties contending seats in other parts of the United Kingdom who can combine their candidates together and are then allowed to have a party political broadcast in all countries of the United Kingdom.
We also feel that the smaller parties would struggle to meet the costs of making a party political broadcast, and would ask that a fund should be created to help other parties make the broadcast without putting the future of the party at risk.

BECTU News - BNP broadcast condemned
The programme, a Party Political Broadcast in connection with the European Electons on 10 June, is due to be transmitted on Friday 21 May. UK broadcasters allow political parties airtime prior to elections according to the number of candidates put forward.
However, the unions believe that the BBC is legally free to ban PPBs, a view that has been confirmed by the BBC in their reply to the union's call for the programmed to be pulled.
But, in the absence of paid political advertising in this country there is a long standing practice that the broadcasters make time available to political parties at election times so that they may address the electorate direct through the medium of television.

Airtime for party politics to be cut
THE routine party political broadcast, that rather less-than-hallowed institution which sends millions of viewers scuttling for their kettles, is to be scrapped.
However, because the broadcasts are expensive to make and watched by few uncommitted members of the public, many parties do not take up their full quota.
Parties currently need to contest 50 seats to secure a general election broadcast but this will be raised to a sixth of the seats contested - which would be around 110 at a general election.

From 1833 to 1856, the Democratic Party was opposed chiefly by the Whig Party.
Civil libertarians often support the Democratic Party because its positions on such issues as civil rights and separation of church and state are more closely aligned to their own than are the positions of the Republican Party, and because the Democrats' economic agenda may be more appealing to them than that of the Libertarian Party.
