Draft Airline Passenger Bill of Rights
The Passenger Bill of Rights applies to all passengers on all airlines, both scheduled and charter, and applies to all flights, no matter what size the aircraft, for the sectors of their itinerary where either the departure or the arrival is with a US airport.

Airlines will print these passenger rights - either in full or in summary, with such summaries to be clearly marked as summaries - on ticket jackets, tickets, and boarding passes, and will have prominent signs referring to the passenger rights at all checkin points and boarding gates.

Nat' Academies Press, Airline Passenger Security Screening: New Technologies and Implementation Issues (1996)
To justify a passenger screening technology that produces an image of passengers' bodies beneath their clothes, the screening procedures must be such that the privacy of the individual is protected to the extent possible.
In the context of airport passenger screening, the reasonable suspicion might be that the subject fits the profile of a typical hijacker, or that the screener observed a bulge under the subject's jacket, which raised the suspicion that the person could be carrying a concealed weapon.
Airline passengers would not feel free to decline a request to submit to a search because declining the search means declining the right to fly.

EPIC Page on EU-US Airline Passenger Data Disclosure
European airlines and European officials are concerned that providing unfettered access to U.S. law enforcement authorities would violate their privacy laws and have been holding discussions with the U.S. to ensure that the privacy of their citizens is adequately protected.
The "physical impossibility" for the airlines to fulfill their contractual obligations, is usually regarded as an insufficient ground to expand the original purpose collecting passenger data (see Working Party's Opinion WP 66).
The arrangement, which allows access to personal details of airline passengers, was agreed upon by the European Commission and the US on February 17-18.

With its campaign, EDRI is hoping to make airline passengers aware of the data transfer and encourage them to write the EC with complaints.
